    Yep, this normally happens. However, be aware that you can't buy tickets on the gate, so they have to be purchased before the event.

    So is the advice to sit tight and if nobody drops out a few days before the event get online and buy a ticket?

    Yep, unless there's anyone looking at this thread that wants to go, but would only need one ticket? Then you could share it that way instead?
