Yorkshire Monthly Meet with a difference! - Saturday 21st April
Hi all,
Well, I know it's been a while since we had a Yorkshire area meeting but I'm kicking off the season with a meet with a difference!
Douglas aka 'The Silver Fox' is planning on removing his engine and gearbox on Saturday 21st April at his house in Tadcaster, just outside of York and is offering free bacon butties and tea/coffee to all that attend. It'd be appreciated if you can lend a hand but if you just want to turn up in your Mk1 or otherwise for a chat then feel free!
Address details will be given out by either PM'ing Douglas or myself for those wanting to attend.
We'll be starting in the morning I guess but feel free to drop in at any point in the day. We'll possibly look at keeping this thread open as a diary of progress on the day.
Anyway, that's it - free bacon and tea for those willing to lend a hand with a spanner! Sounds like a grand deal to me.
Over to you guys n girls!
I'll start a list below of attendees.
Cheers,
Tom

I may be able to come along to this. Should I bring the van full of tools or come in the MR2?

OK Douglas is there anything you need tool wise? I have most things. I also have pallets of rubber gloves so will stick a box or two in the boot? I have never taken an engine out of a MK1 before but I have done a clutch change on my own and that was hard work.

I have been reading through Paul's excellent engine removal guide and think I will be ok tool wise. Tom is bringing his big jack. I am sure the gloves will come in handy.

I have a pallet truck that would be really useful but it will not fit in a MK1

Thanks for the help guys. I say help but you did most of the work, I just seemed to be passing tools.
Tommy, I think you got away just in time - Marie(79) from next door asked where you were as she likes 'Young men with shiny red sports cars'!!!
Started dismantling the engine and found the first problem - cracked exhaust manifold.
Off to Newcastle tomorrow so will resume on Monday.
Cheers
Douglas
