    Mk 2 for a Mk1??

    Hi there,

I was on this forum last summer when I was looking for a Mk1 MR2 but eventually I ended up with a Mk2.

I love the Mk2 to bits, but am finding it a bit expensive to run, especially with the petrol prices the way they are. I was thinking of trying to find a Mk1 owner who may interested in some kind of a swap deal. I know it might be difficult but said I would throw it out there.

My car is a 1992 Rev1 156hp model. I just spend a few hunrdred on new tyres for the NCT - it passed on everything else. It's absolutely perfect and totally as standard.

So far the only other mk1 owner who has expressed an interest is the person selling this:

Is anybody here familiar with it? Apparently the 'rattle' are nig end bearings.

i cant see how a mk1 would be any cheaper to run, fuel consumption is no better really and there still in the higher tax bands

Sorry I was only going by what I was told by a friend of mine who has a mk1 and used to own a mk2. He told me that they are far more economical. I'm in Ireland, not the UK, and a 1.6 litre engine is a bit cheaper than a 2.0. Insurance also alot less, for me at least.

    Is it local to you?

Like everyone says, rust's the biggest bugger with MK1s. 120,000 miles is a pretty reasonable mileage, and it's a good sign that it still has its tool kit and owners manual.

I don't know how Irish "NCTs" work, but I'm guessing it should probably say September 2011 rather than 2012? Either way that's a good length.

If you can get to it easily enough I think the best advice is just to go and see it and inspect all the usual locations of rot - there's a really useful buying guide here:

    Hope that helps a bit!

That car is for sale on Donedeal for a good while now,hes dropping a few pound off the prcie every other week so a good cash offer would lift it.

Originally green aswell,if you were to restore it back to its original colour, you'd have a very nice car there, rare colour.

Theres a white MK1 MR2 for sale in Cobh if I remember correctly on Gumtree Cork,I was tempted to go for a look myself, not too far from me at all, just down the Link!
