    Newbie saying hi

    Hi everyone,

just started to look to buy one of these great cars. I'm based in Billericay, Essex. Had a good look at the forums and will be looking at cars in the next week. Like working on cars and need to start some welding lessons too. Always wanted one of these when i was younger and now have the time and the cash to spend too.

    Gary

    hiya and welcome

this is a good place to start if you are looking for a mk1 - check out the sale section

MMC that you are going to start welding lessons, its like you've had a mk1 already....
    actually they aren't that bad.

Welcome to the club. Welding lessons is a good investment, you will need them I suspect.

When you find a car you like. Put a post on here & members will give you advice. Perhaps a local member would give the car a look over for you.

It looks pretty good from the pictures, although the description doesn't give too much away. The pictures aren't that clear, but I think the rear pinstripe detailing is missing from behind the rear arches, suggesting that it's had some bodywork done. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as the majority of them have had work done to some extent, but it's worth checking how it's been done and how well

Either way, make sure you have a good read through the buyers' guide as that will tell you the usual pitfalls of buying a 20+ year-old MR2

blue interior is yeuch! most people don't like blue inside, and they are noramlly cheaper than ones with black interior or black leather.
the aeiral is in a strange place too
look okay, but hard to tell from photos if all the blue panels are the same colour.

    Hiya,

I'm in Essex too - in Thurrock so it's always good to see a local MK1 member. For the past 2 years the club went to a classic car show at Barleylands, last year there were 4 MK1's there. Met up at the halfway house on the A127 & led the way there using my local knowledge!

We got my MK1 sunroof from Wembley & my other half got his from Surrey I think it was. See the odd MK1 around, saw a white one on the A13 3 weeks ago on a Sunday morning & last Sunday saw another white one on the A128 near Orsett C0ck roundabout.
