    Hello

    Hello everybody,

I have just got myself a mk1 b in pinky red, that needs a little love, but is still a pleasure to drive after having far more sensible vehicles. A little new to all of this but I'm sure there will be questions aplenty soon enough. In the meantime does anybody have any recommedations for workshops manuals?

Any suggestions would be appreciated, Joe.

    Hi, welcome aboard.
the BGB (big green book) is the Toyota bible. it comes as one large green book or several smaller ones (still known as the BGB ) or there is the trusty if not completely accurate haynes manual.
BGB is lots of money, haynes reasonable. If you look on ebay you will see some. I have one you can buy if you want to pm me.

    Hi Joe.

Haynes book of Lies is inaccurate and dangerous. It specifies incorrect torque figures for quite important Jobs Such as HEad torque settings when changing the head gasket people have not torques to the correct figure when changing them which has led to the gaskets going again pretty soon after. As an AW11 Specialist I thought you would have known that Kev....

Toyota BGB is available in Book format but to be honest your better off finding it in PDF form. That way you can just print off the pages you need to do a specific job and you dont have to worry about getting it dirty or loosing a vital page mid job.

If you are going to come to some meets im pretty sure a club member can burn or lend you a usb stick to put on your PC. Most club owners have it and its small enough to throw on a 500meg Data stick and keep it in your glove box. That way should you ever have to give the car to a garage to do a job and they are unfamiliar with the car you can say here is the Toyota Workshop manuals.

So although you don't encourage it, you're saying that most of the club members openly act illegally?!

Also, Kev did actually mention that the Haynes manual is "not completely accurate".

PS: Welcome Joe! You'll find plenty of useful people and info on the site, and get joined upto the club if you haven't done already.

Well, I'm glad I've given everybody something to talk about, didn't realise it was going to cause quite such a fuss. Either way, I am quite tempted to attend some of the meets, so hopefully I can coerce somebody into giving me a copy.
