    Mk3 Alloy Wanted

    Hi All

My Mk1b T-Bar was bought with 15 inch mk3 alloys. The spare with it is a 14 inch teardrop. I would like to buy a matching, same size spare, in size 6J, either with or without tyre. I can collect within a 50 mile radius of Bishop Auckland or can pay postage.

Bare in mind that 15" MK3 alloys came in 2 sizes, 15 x 6J front 15 x 6.5J rear. The size is cast into the rear of one of the spokes. I think the 6.5" should fit on the front ok but I've never tried it, I got a 6" one as a spare.

    Hi Jimi

I knew that but didn't think to put it in my ad, doh!

I think the sensible thing is to look for a 6J wheel, then there's definitely no issues. I will try to edit my original post. Thanks!

That wheel has had a hard paper round . Pickup only, unfortunately or I would have thought about it.

Appreciate the link though, Jimi :

Aye, it was a big round
To be fair MK3 alloys were well known for bubbling paint from the factory, Mr T was replacing them under warranty as it was down to a poor factory coating, I'd bet the majority of PFL ones have been refurbished by now, I got mine powder coated many years ago, they still look good now.

let me spend a millisecond thinking about that

A couple of mine originally didn't look much better than the one I linked to, that's why I got them cheapish. I ran them for 4 years (using a teardrop as a spare) until I got a spare MK3 wheel, then I got them all 5 bead blasted, powder coated and lacquered, (£35/wheel) that picture above was taken in 2009 when I got them back, here's a picture from Dec last year just after the MOT, wheels still look good

Well I will shortly have my 'new' wheel. I did a deal with a seller on eBay and it should be here Tuesday. It will need a refurb so open to any recommendations in the Bishop Auckland area. I've bought a new tyre to go with it, from Camskill.

Thanks to Jimi for his input .

I should be able to get my money back by selling the other wheels that came with the car. There's a refurbed 14" pepperpot with a brand new tyre (which was the spare) and a full set of four 14" wheels fitted with what I was told are winter tyres. I won't need these as the car will be hibernating over winter. I need to have a thorough look at these to determine condition etc. and then I will look to advertise them.
