We seem to have been given a large plot at Crystal Palace but have only six cars coming.
Could do with a few more cars to come to Crystal Palace if anyone is free please.

Sorry Stuart, I didn't see your post until today. We had plenty of space available but the show and weather was rather disappointing so don't feel too bad about it.
    Cheers

Deal Classic Music and Motors 2016

The May bank holiday weekend was going to be a busy one for MR2’s. Sunday would be an early start to get to Deal, just along the coast from Dover and then almost as early to Crystal Palace in South East London the following day, Bank holiday Monday.
We had not been to the Classic Music and Motors rolling show before although we had visited it last year to do a recky and found it to be pretty good so we were looking forward to our first appearance. The show is as it says, classic music from the 70’s and 80’s (not to be confused with classical) and classic cars. The show tours the south east and north kent coast during the year playing at Deal, Dover, Birchington. Herne Bay, Whitstable and Faversham.
On a bright and sunny Sunday morning we set off at 7.00am from Orpington with Steve Kingnorth’s supercharger following our red N/A doing one junction of the M25 and onto the M20. At that time of the morning there is little traffic and considering we had 70 miles to travel in an hour and a half our progress was shall we say swift! We had arranged to meet Pete Kyte at the Motorway services at Junction 8 in his Mk2 Turbo. Once on the Motorway again the three of us didn’t hang about and met up at our meeting place just outside Dover just 10 minutes behind schedule. 10 MR2’s were soon heading towards Deal in a long convoy. When we arrived at Walmer Gardens on the sea front we were guided to our position. Space was a bit tight but we all managed to park in our allotted space. The whole show area was split into three sections along the grassed area split in the middle by the lifeboat house with the music area in the middle and classic car areas either side. The show was packed with classic cars and as it was a nice day loads of people came to look. The music was also very good, the highlight being Ben Mills and his Band. They played two hourly sessions throughout the day but music was being performed all day long. Everyone of our group was impressed with the day and all agreed to book to go to the same show at Herne Bay in July.

    Motorsport at the Palace 2016

At this years event at Crystal Palace the show was organized by Live Promotions Ltd as the show had got too big for the Sevenoaks and District Motor Club volunteers although they kept control of the Motor sport action.
Very strangely, there seemed to be a different atmosphere this year plus a distinct absence of public visitors. Normally this weekend is packed and the atmosphere electric, but not this year. The local traders and exhibiters from previous years were missing, instead Live Promotions brought in their regular traders, including a children’s fairground. However there aren’t many children taken to a motorsport event and we think the organizers didn’t appreciate their target audience.
During the afternoon the club stand was visited by one of the organizing team and they apologised for getting it all wrong and that they were also disappointed with the way things had turned out but have learnt lessons for next year. Let’s hope so.
