For Sale My Treasured 1988 Toyota MR2 Mk1b T-Bar Leather finished in SuperRed2

Please note that this car has now been sold.

Hello and welcome to my “for sale” advertisement for my beloved Toyota MR2 Mk1b finished in SuperRed2 - the best colour for a sports car in my opinion!

I have decided to sell due to a recent purchase, and am looking to re-home her with a similarly like mined dedicated enthusiast, wishing to spoil and respect her for many years to come, something that she has become used to!

She was purchased just under a year ago from its previous owner who lived in Gloucester, kept her garaged (as did I until my new purchase arrived which took her place) and who used her purely as a weekend car, him having owned her for five years. I too used her for weekends and occasional drives to work, but always only ever in dry weather.

First registered in June 1988, she has had four previous owners before me, with the odometer currently reading 122784. She comes with a full service history together with various documents I was given by the last owner, previous tax discs and service receipts. There isn't a massive amount of documentation but I have created a typed history document with all of the details and information I know on the car, and it of course comes with the original stamped service record booklet.

When I took possession, there were a few items that were missing, which I have since sourced and fitted, maintaining her original specification at all times, including a pair of mud flaps, which have not yet been fitted but will come with the car. There are still improvements that a new owner can do, but overall she has an excellent solid chassis, a very good body and interior. The engine is in good order, having had an oil change over the winter and the gearbox is also sound, with no known issues. The alternator was replaced in 2007 and the wheels were professionally refinished in 2009. It has Toyo tyres all round which are in good condition with about 5mm of tread, good for many more miles. The exhaust is in good order with original Toyota chrome baffles fitted. She also comes with the original tool kit, original radio cassette and the original electric aerial, which is still in working order.

The great benefit of the T-bar model is that it provides a wind in the hair experience of a soft top, but none of the buffeting, a perfect combination, and far better than the ordinary sunroof version. The glass targa roof sections are simply stored in their original bags safely behind the seats, along with the removal sunshades. The other benefit of this model is that it has leather door cards and seats, all of which are in good order with no rips or tears, which is a common occurrence. I replaced the original driver’s seat with a much better one, but it is obviously not as perfect as the passenger seat as it gets more use.

She is currently SORN and I will MOT her for another twelve months as part of the sale, which is due to expire mid-April. I am looking for £2150, which is a very reasonable price for this beautiful classic car.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact me.

    Thank you for looking

Lovely car, i might know someone for this, one question though, the rear bumper skin is deformed inwards in the middle by quite a bit, the top bumper swage line visible under the lights also disappears behind the number plate panel, which isn't normal, has the car had any sort of rear impact?

I think it might be the photo, as there is has been no impact damage to the car that I am aware of either front or rear. I checked the rear boot floor and the front boot floor for signs of damage when I bought the car and there is no deformation or repairs whatsoever, it is as it was when new, and if there was anything of that nature I would have listed it.

Here is another picture of the bumper from a different angle.

Perhaps if you have any other Q's you could PM me?

    It definitely isn't straight...

I think the bumper reinforcer bar is bent, it's not as obvious on the side shot, but from the rear the top swage should be visible under the number plate panel.

My customer is looking for a very good Mk1 but with no hidden accident damage.

Not trying to pick fault, it's just something as an Mr2 specialist i notice, apart from that it looks very good and i think he will be interested in it, but he will probably want to carry out a Cat C/D check first as he is a very particular customer of mine.

I have removed the bumper to expose the rear panel and inspect the bumper bar and there is NO issues at all that I can see, no evidence of collision damage, repair or deflection to either the chassis or the bar, which is in good solid condition and only surface rust evident. I took the opportunity of cleaning down and polishing the rear panel as you can see.

As stated in my previous reply, I checked the rear boot floor and the front boot floor for signs of damage when I bought the car and there is no deformation or repairs whatsoever, it is as it was when new, and if there was anything of that nature I would have listed it.

    See the following photographs.

Hi , thanks for taking the time to do that, I just don't know why the top bumper swage dives behind the number plate panel, it should be sitting in front of it.

I will pass your details to my customer as this car looks like just what he's after.

10/10 for taking that apart to check it out, looks like a good car for the money given the ammount popping up left right and centre, for sale at £4k+ - mind you most of those are 1a's which are a lot rarer.

Hi , that bar looks bent to me also but it doesn't take much of a impact to deform it .The pics you have taken proves its not had any work done on the rear end and looks original to me . The condition of the car looks fabulous and tbh its to cheap for this car and should be priced a lot more .
