Wow, looks like I'm a bit late to this party.

I had the car between Dave and Tom and had a great time in it!

Re: The fuel smell. When I had it there was a hole in the fuel filler pipe. Gary (Mk1Dal) gave me a new pipe which I never got round to fitting *blush*, but did pass on to Tom with the car. I don't know if Tom got round to fitting it or not, but it might be worth checking (before you try and put any petrol in it).

Great to see the car is staying with the forum!

Where abouts are you based? There is lots going on the north west if you fancy a bit of socialising.

I dont think tom got around to doing it, as i filled the car up today and as i pulled away i noticed a big puddle of petrol on the floor I only took a second look because of what dave said earlier in the thread about the fuel pipe. At least i know what the problem is now.

Rick did the car have a metaly sound around 3500rpm to 4000rpm (sorry for the bad description its just hard to describe) when you had it??? any idea what it is anybody???

Dave if the offer still stands about the fuel pipe looks like i might have to take you up on it. How much do you want for it?

The rattle could be heat shields rattling. As for the filler neck yes the offer still stands I can give you a lift fitting it as well if you want to make the trip to mine a whole 30 miles away. As for the price I could probably supply and fit for errrrrrrmmm beer tokens I'm English not Welsh you know boyoh lol

LOL, looks like I was later than I thought.

I don't recall any strange rattles, but it's been over a year since I drove it, and I'm not the most mechanically minded (and not very good at reading threads on the internet ).

As a temp fix you can pick up some fuel tank clay/putty stuff. I used it while I had the car but unfortunately it fell off during the months it was laid up outside my place. As an even more temp fix I stuck some tape round it LOL.

I thought the rattling could be heat sheilds rattling about but havn't had time to look yet i'm a bust boy lol

What tape do you reccomend i use Rick gaffa tape or abit of masking tape lol. how come the car was outside your house foer a few months?? i can't believe you got bord of it???

I used insulation and duck, neither worked for more than a couple of fill ups though LOL

Oh no, I never got board of it, it was an great little car. I joined in all the club drives with it, it was strong and well planet, never missed a beat up until it developed a mysterious fault. The guys in the club where amazing though. Cabby came over and looked at it for me, Paul Woods was on the other end of the phone and on the forum supplying great advice and parts, and Bill was at my door a few times spanners and spare parts in hand! It turned out to be a problem with the ECU.

You can read all about it here

    http://www.mr2mk1club.com/showthread...-then-cuts-out

And then Bill got it running again here

    http://www.mr2mk1club.com/showthread...k1-going-today

Unfortunately due to the bad weather (and maybe my lazyness) it took a long time to get to the bottom of it.

In the mean time I got my self a big fat Mk2 and once the Mk1 was going again I sold it on to Tom. If you've not seen his project thread already it here...
