    Mk1 engine problems on ebay

    What are peoples thoughts on the mk1 on ebay that ha a been taken apart do you need new heads on these or just new gasket

    engine is no real worry as you can pick one up for not much money, if the body is ok then it could be a bargain, its an early 1A and they are getting very scarce, if you can arrange collection and fancy a punt then go for it
    wrong seats but again no major probs to source correct red/black ones

    For piece of mind you could strip the whole lot yourself and rebuild it from bottom up. That's what I would do if I had the luxury of a another car to use.

    early blue top its likely that big ends are in need of attention, budget option is simply replace the engine, job jobbed

    Yeah but then if you replace the engine you don't know what problems that one will have. Red tops are invincible either. My big end went at 135k and the one before that 120k. If you have the time, money and patience I think it's better in the long run to rebuild.

    might strip it down anyway as it seems half done anyway hopefully I win it later on and will finnaly have myself a mr2 to play with
