Woodsport Mk1 2011 rear strut brace

Hi folks, i used to produce a crude but functional rear strut brace about 10 years ago for the Mk1, and a few of them have recently surfaced again after all this time, so i got thinking it was time to produce an all new 2011 version, much lighter, very strong, laser cut brackets, rose jointed, fully adjustable preload and highly polished with new cap head bolts etc.

Anyway here it is... this fits all NA Mk1a and b models.

Paul, does the coolant bottle not clash with the brace?

No, not at all, i just forgot to refit it when i took the pics, i always make sure my products don't foul anything and fit properly.

It shouldn't do Jimbo, it all depends on the diameter of your K&N but my induction filter is quite large and it clears that, it would clear my filter if it was right on the TB.

I wasnt saying you hadnt already checked paul, just when I had a quick look at making my own I thought the collar of the bottle would clash is all

In no way consider this a dig, but it does look a bit familiar to the ones on my car i made a good few years back. I like em :)

The only issue I have with mine is getting at the dipstick. You can get it alright, but its a bit of a fiddle.

Hi mate, i had forgot all about yours to be honest, some owners on Imoc egged me on to make a new strut brace and this was the result, now that you mention it it does look a lot like yours!

but why use a rose joint ? I wouldn't question that it's a quality product and looks right, and when things look right they usually are right in my experience, but when would you expect movement in the rose joint isn't the brace there to stop movement and make the whole thing as rigid as possible, not that the rose joint would make it any less stiff, just wondered at the thinking behind it as opposed to a solid welded bar or bolted.

Simply it looks so much better, why not use a rose joint? The brace is there to help prevent the strut tops moving on the horizontal plane, no brace solid or jointed, will prevent any vertical movement, the nut and bolt on solid brace ends will just pivot no matter how tight it is with the weight of the car bearing down on it under cornering.

All braces work along their axis, so it doesn't matter how they are attached at the ends, in the case of a Mk1 engine bay brace it is helping prevent the strut towers moving closer together or further apart.

Hi Steve, yes i have noticed a difference with the brace fitted, the rear feels tighter to me.

yes your right it does look much more motor sport and less bolt on extra

Yes i can still make one on request, i'm a little busy at the moment with JAE fast approaching though, it's my really hectic time of year, what timescale are we talking?

No rush, just wondering for the future if they were still available for manufacture and purchase. Will keep in mind for a fture purchase paul!!

No we stopped doing 3vz installs many years ago so it never happened, I can make bespoke one off braces in the workshop though but I need the car.

I'll see how i goes Paul, I have JB's white MK1, need to sort out the driveshaft issue, but I think it would benefit from a brace on the back, even though the rear firewall does go back
