I spotted your car for sale Paul and it does look fantastic, but feel cars like that should go to people who are going to look after them and keep them stock, I would like something I can modify and mess around with, perhaps get a respray in mica orange (because its my fave colour but they are rare as hens teeth) so something solid and reliable with a bit wear and tear would be more my sorta thing.
My other option is go down the 3s-gte route. Many people would probably look at my current mk2 turbo and say use it for a donor car due to having 130k miles and bits of rust coming thru, but I still think its perhaps a bit good to break. Even accounting for sourcing an engine and gearbox I think a mk1.5 could be built for the same cost as purchasing a half decent manual s/c car! Hmm, more thinking needed and also need to sell my mk2 still

I'd have thought for your sort of money you could get a good MK1 and get a specialist to drop in something a bit, erm, special.
