BROMLEY MOTORING PAGEANT - SUNDAY 30th JUNE
2002
The Bromley Pageant of Motoring in Kent was the
first show that the Middlesex/Surrey area MK1 club members attended. It is the
biggest one day car event in the world, and this year celebrated its 25th
anniversary. We were lucky enough to get a stand on the day. Alan Cayzer, Tom
and Steve Kingsnorth provided the cars for the stand with mine as back-up. Our
display had a World Cup football theme that was put together so well by Alan.
The cars really stood out on the day all being red, and we gained lots of
interest. Tom brought his wife who was celebrating her birthday. Tom's car, a
late F plate is absolutely immaculate and has covered only 40,000 miles. Steve
has an early B registered coupe, which has undergone some extensive work. Alan's
very tidy example completed the stand. We did not come away with any prizes but
we left feeling very pleased that we had introduced people to this great classic
sports car.
To avoid congestion problems, this year saw a complete change of layout with
no public visiting cars in the showground. A vast area of fields adjacent to
(and as big as) the showground was used, with a separate entrance. Public
parking was free for the first time.
There were over 3,500 exhibitors, 300 trade and autojumble stands, arena
entertainments Arena Events were busy throughout the day with music from The
Flames, numerous vehicle parades plus a daredevil motor bike display which was
very impressive.
Over 100 classic car clubs attended. There were cash prizes for the best
displays - £200 plus the Club Team Trophy for the winning club, £100 plus
trophies for second place, £50 plus trophies for third place and seven
runners-up team prizes of £25.
There was Autoglym Concours round, A Models Marquee, Pre-War cars, Tractors,
Stationary Engines, Military and Commercial vehicles, Competition Cars, Special
Displays, a fair for the children and lots of craft stands. This show really
does cater for everyone and is a success every year. There was even a trader who
was selling a MK1 in the cars for sale section.
Hopefully the guy who came over asking our advice fills in the membership
card and joins up.
Thank you to local members who turned up to show support. We are hoping to
attend gain next year, it would be nice if more members attended this huge show,
I just hope the weather is a bit warmer.
