JAPANESE PERFORMANCE CAR SHOW - THORESBY PARK NOTTINGHAMSHIRE SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 22nd AND 23rd JUNE 2002

The show moved from last years venue at Stanford Hall following complaints about toilet facilities and the size of the showground. Rachael and I arrived on Friday evening after an hours drive from Loughborough, and pitched our tent under a large oak tree as the weather didn’t look too promising. We were soon joined by Mark Nias and Lauren Blighton and sat drinking and talking before crawling into the tents.

Saturday morning was overcast but luckily the promised rain never materialised to dampen the spirits of the 6 members who turned up. Dave Price was glad he made the long haul from Middlesex, as he was runner up in the best Toyota category and winner of the best 85-90 sports car section. Richly deserved rewards for all the hard work he puts into his gleaming blue MR2.

We drove into a nearby town in the evening looking for an Indian restaurant, but returned hungry and decided to have a look around the hotel gardens before a drink in the rather swish bar. The wind was rather cold as night fell but someone had the bright idea of having a camp fire, so we gathered piles of dead wood from under our tree and soon had a blazing fire going which was very effective and started a bit of a trend with our neighbours, the Mitsubishi GTO club. Later Mark and Lauren disappeared further into the trees and came back dragging much larger pieces to keep it going well into the night,

A full moon illuminated the park and the scene was very unusual.

Sunday dawned better with the promise of a sunny day and the wind dropped as we moved to the show site to await the other arrivals. Ted and Joan Collins returned for the second day, Ted’s red car sporting a new home made sports exhaust system which sounded just the part. Stuart Nolloth was rewarded for his journey from Norfolk in his immaculate white bodykitted MR2 with no less than 3 awards, including a cup presented by the Honda R club. 9 cars attended on the second day, and we met 4 potential new members. The show has been confirmed for next year again at Thoresby.
