MELTON MOWBRAY CLASSIC CAR SHOW - MONDAY 3rd
JUNE 2002
Melton Mowbray is one of the most famous towns in
England, and is know the world over for Stilton cheese and Melton Mowbray Pork
Pies.
The famous King Edward V11 Grammar School which overlooks the town has 2
famous Old Boys. Monty Python genius Graham Chapman attended the school in the
late 1950's. He was closely followed by a young lad who went on to become even
more famous as the Editor of the Toyota MR2 MK1 Club Magazine. Chapman was
responsible for the famous sketch - originally entitled "A pet shop somewhere
near Melton Mowbray" which went on to become one of the comedy classics of all
time. His fellow Old Boy has yet to have his talents so widely recognised.
After the excitement of the weekend before at the NEC it was back to the more
normal club events in the shape of the MM show. This event was run by the MCCC
who we meet with every month at Appleby Parva. I was particularly keen to go to
this show as Melton is my home town. I didn’t see anyone from my youth but we
were kept busy all day – in between the showers - answering a lot of enquiries
from people. The show was a lot bigger than I had expected, and the five of us
had an enjoyable time explaining all about the MR2. As it was Jubilee Day it was
appropriate that the three MR2’s that turned up were red, white and blue.
