BRITISH SPORTS CAR FESTIVAL – BROOKLANDS
SATURDAY 1st and SUNDAY 2nd JUNE 2002
Oh dear, what happened? With only a few days to go
before this promising looking event nobody wanted to go. Local area organiser
Dave Price did his best to try and pull it out of the fire and contacted
Limelight Exhibitions to confirm the booking the club made for a pitch for 10
cars on each day back in February. Dave was assured that the club would be made
welcome and started phoning round to drum up some support from local members.
Unfortunately when he arrived the chap on the gate told him in no uncertain
terms that this was the British Sports Car Show and the car Dave was driving
what was obviously Japanese. In spite of explanations that he had telephoned and
confirmed our clubs presence, the ‘jobsworth’ was unmoved and Dave was told he
would have to pay to get in and park in the public car park.
After trying to contact the other members he had persuaded to come, Dave gave
up and drove home.
For the record I booked the club pitch by fax at 14.30 on 6th February 2002,
and this was confirmed by a telephone call from Maria at Limelight on the 12th
February. I had previously spoken to Sally Mitchell and had been assured that
the club would be more than welcome to attend.
Next year I don’t think that we will bother.
