SUPERCAR SUNDAY, GAYDON, WARWICKSHIRE - SUNDAY 18th JUNE 2006
For all those who knew that Fathers’ Day meant that they had the final word of what they would like to do
on this special day was to see some supercars then this was the place to visit.
We had a pitch at this special show with 8 cars on our allotted space. This happened to be tarmac –
not the ideal place to put a gazebo in rather windy weather. With some lateral
thinking however we managed to tie the support cords to MR2 spare tyres (you
need at least four cars to turn up!). This worked admirably as we had eight of
us on the pitch and although there were plenty of Ferraris, Porsches,
Lamborginis, Vipers etc. there to drool over, and we were visited by many
enthusiasts.
One of the main highlights
of the show was a superb exhibition of carabatics by Russ Swift. You remember
the old Mini Metro advert where he skid parks a Metro into the smallest of
spaces between two parked cars? – Well he did this in a special arena and much
more - showing us with the aid of a ramp how to drive a car on two wheels. The
cars were Mini Coopers and to see him accelerate up to 40 mph and do a skid stop
turn ending up 6 feet away from the crowd barrier each time was amazing.
For all exhibitors there was
free entry into the Museum and one could have spent half the day in there
viewing all the old classics and experimental cars that never made the
production lines.
A great day was had by all
