NOTTINGHAM AUTOKARNA - SUNDAY 4th JUNE 2006
Wollaton Park was once more the venue for
“The Pre-War Austin Seven Club” Autokarna. We were invited to attend and
display as a club once again. Being near the centre of Nottingham
it attracted a large crowd and as last year the weather was perfect.
There was
a little confusion as to the position of our display area but never the less the
gazebo was set up together with the club flag and banner in the designated area.
Within 20
minutes Isabel Beardsmore who had been for a walk round had found another area
marked for MR2’s which was in a much more desirable position. Being sure that
we could move to that space we collected the banner and flag and moved 200 yards
across the park, the only item left was the gazebo.
Those of
you who have attended the JAE at Billing will guess what happened next, the
gazebo was picked up by four members and much to the amusement of the spectators
was walked along the road to our new site as traffic passed underneath.
Settled on
our pitch we had a good deal of interest from the general public and we were
kept busy showing future excited young drivers the inside of the cars and all
the controls.
There was
a very good auto jumble area and many vintage pre-war and classic cars,
motorcycles and commercial vehicles plus a miniature steam engine display. For
the younger element there was a fairground and a Punch and Judy show.
There was
an excellent band playing “Glen Miller” style music during the day, they
were sited next to the beer caravan so it was good to sit in the sun and relax
with a pint and listen to the music.
The club members attending this year were:-
Isabel Beardsmore
Bob Cox
Phil Davis
Stuart Kynoch
Fred and Doris Sanderson
Thanks to everyone who displayed their car, it was once more a very successful day, for me
it was particularly successful as I sold my car, the plus is that we will have a
new club member, it just shows that you have to use extreme methods to recruit
new members.
Many
thanks to “The Pre-War Austin Seven club” for inviting our club to attend.
