CLUB NATIONAL CHRISTMAS PARTY - SATURDAY
3rd DECEMBER
The Christmas party of the year was a wonderful
success, as usual with the club events only a few members made the effort to
join the festivities, 22 in all; what a party you all missed, the best yet.
Early revellers arrived on Friday and settled into their accommodation at the
Quality Hotel in Loughborough, the venue for the party, they were Steve and
Jackie from the South East, Mac and Jacqui and Mike and Joanne from the North
East, Doris and I joined them and we spent a very pleasant evening in the
Harvester next door enjoying a meal and a drink and getting into the swing of
party time.
Saturday afternoon is usually a time for a drink and talking to old friends
from far off corners of the various areas and meeting members who have never
attended the party before, this year was no exception. By 3-30 most party goers
were in deep conversation and enjoying a festive drink provided by the club,
there were some energetic souls who found the gym and the pool leaving most to
make sure the bar didn’t close before they were ready for a second drink.
7 o’clock we all met in the reception area for, should I say an appetiser and
then once the stragglers had arrived we were ready to be escorted by our hostess
Layla dressed in the most gorgeous festive outfit into the function room
(Christmas fairies never looked so good when I was a kid).
We all enjoyed an excellent meal complemented by wine provided by the club,
with some quiet background music. Once the meal was over the entertainment
started with the resident DJ, this was followed by the star act; “The Diamond
Blues Brothers”, where these guys find their energy is beyond me, they
entertained us vocally and with amazing dance routines which I think left most
of us breathless just watching.
Whilst all this was going on Doris and I sold raffle tickets, there were nine
prizes to be won which I think satisfied each winner.
After the star act we danced the evening away to the sounds provided by the
DJ and finally the last of us drifted off to bed around 2am tired and satisfied
that we’d had a great party.
Sunday morning the plan was to meet in the car park at 10.30 after a good
breakfast and have a short run to Staunton Harold where there is a craft and
garden centre all set up for the festive season. The morning was lovely and
bright with a little sunshine and the run was enjoyed by all who were able to
attend. Eventually we said our goodbyes and parted in our various directions for
a safe journey home.
Thank you everyone who supported the Christmas party, The Quality Hotel must
be complemented on the accommodation and the Saturday Cabaret evening, it really
makes it worth while making the effort to organise the event and see those
attending enjoying the fun.
See you there next year?
