AUGUST MR2 RACING and CLUB BBQ, MALLORY
PARK, LEICESTERSHIRE - SUNDAY 14th AUGUST 2005
21 MK1s, including 9 SCs, 3 MK2 guests and 2 Metros. 20
MK1s and a MK2 racing and no rain.
Another fabulous day at one of the best venues we attend in the midlands. The
day was full of great expectations from brilliant racing to a satisfying
barbecue, we were not disappointed.
By 9.30am cars unloaded, we were marking out a good sized area for the club
pitch for the day with the help of Mac and Mike Sheavills who had travelled from
the North East area to spend the day with us. Post’s in position, flag raised
and banner on display so that it could be seen from the track side to give
encouragement to the MR2 racing drivers and we were ready for the influx of club
members and visitors.
The attendance was the best we have had at this event, in total we had 23
cars consisting of 12 MK1s of various vintages, 9 Superchargers and 2 MK2s, a
sight to see.
Around 1pm the barbecue was lit and when ready Doris, Jacqui and Rachael did
the honours cooking beef burgers and sausages and making sure that everyone was
well fed and satisfied.
After clearing up the afternoon was spent watching the racing which was very
enjoyable, there was a long wait for the MR2 race as it was the last race of the
afternoon but well worth waiting for.
After a very satisfying day everything was packed up, goodbyes said and off
we all went dwelling on the great day we had spent at Mallory Park.
