NATIONAL KIT AND PERFORMANCE CAR SHOW -
DONINGTON PARK, LEICESTERSHIRE, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 4th and 5th SEPTEMBER 2004
Saturday morning dawned with the promise of a good weekends
weather for The Kit Car show at Donington. Everything packed into our trusty
camper and we were on our way for the 5 mile drive to the show ground, Doris
took up the rear in my MR2. On entry we found that the staff were a little
better organised than previous years diverting us to the £2 entry lane. Stuart
Kynoch was already on site doing his best to hold a suitable area for us to set
up a pitch, within a short time we had an area roped off complete with the club
flag flying high and the banner on display for all to view. Lois and Geoff
Cordon were the next to arrive and quickly set up the double gazebo that was the
centre of our display.
On Saturday there were 8 MR2s on show, mostly local members, Jim Charmers
from Northern Ireland was very welcome and spent both days with us. Carl and Bev
from Hibaldstow were having problems with their MR2 and still made the effort to
be with us. After spending the day talking to visitors and viewing the kit cars
we had a good barbecue and a few drinks followed by a fire to brighten the
evening up.
Sunday saw 12 MR2s and fantastic sunshine to enjoy the day, Alan Jones spent
the day talking to and advising members on various problems, a further
barbecue at lunchtime sent satisfied members eventually home. On a different
note I find it very disappointing that so few members visited the event, a great
deal of effort goes into the preparation and I would hope for more support in
future.
