JAE, BILLING AQUADROME, NORTHAMPTON FRIDAY TO
SUNDAY 23rd TO 25th JULY 2004
It seemed an awful long time to wait for the show,
all the preparation under way and the last minute jobs almost complete and there
it was, Friday the 23rd July and we were heading for Billing to set up the
camping area for the members who were planning to camp for the weekend.
Armed with wooden stakes and 220 metres of rope we marked out a camping area
60m X 20m, raised our new club flag, set up the banner and sat back and waited
for the first arrivals.
By 6 o'clock we had 26 cars with their camping gear all set up, that was the
best ever. Beef curry was prepared by Doris to feed everyone, which went down
very well, then a trip to the pub and back for Rachael's spaghetti bolognaise, a
good long chat and all to bed by 1 am.
Saturday morning dawned with the sun shining, breakfast finished and all the
cars were heading for the club pitch. Apart from finding a few stray campers on
our area, we were all set up within half an hour and waiting for the Saturday
influx of MK1s. By lunchtime we had 49 cars on the pitch.
Paul Woods kindly offered to be technical advisor for the show in the absence
of Alan Jones who had family commitments. The big attraction was Paul's Turbo,
it would be fair to say that Paul was brimming over with enthusiasm with regard
to the Turbo and there certainly was a great deal of interest shown.
The Wendy Baxter Trophy was awarded this year to Paul Page and was presented
by Terry Wilson.
The traditional Gazebo walk brought many smiles as cars passed under as they
were carried back to the camping area, barbecues were lit and suppers eaten
washed down with various home made wines and spirits supplied by Doris.
span>Next on the agenda were the fireworks, a very good show.
Sunday morning was clear and bright as the cars headed away from the camping
area for the display stand, all in place and we were waiting for the cars to
arrive to take us over the record, but sadly we didn't quite make it, we had a
grand total of 55, two short of breaking the record, next year we will make it.
There were 14 trophies to be won, a group of judges were appointed and after
a great deal of deliberation 14 worthy recipients were chosen. The winners
were:-
