16 MR2's on Sunday - a new record for Donington
Phil Bood takes his sister around the track
The clubs Donington record was broken this year with 16 MR2s
gathering on the club stand on Sunday, many taking advantage of the only
opportunity of the year to drive on the famous circuit. As the stand was sited
right by the road leading to the public car park we managed to attract several
non-members in their MR2s to join us. Albert Whitehouse brought his latest
acquisition, a Mica blue coupe.
A nice white MR2 with unusual twin side exit exhaust tail pipes drew a lot
of interest.
Chairman Stuart Kynoch brought his green Karmeleon body
conversion, which attracted a lot of attention.
Mark Nias and Lauren Blighton both being temporarily MR2-less, arrived in an old Rover 200
named ‘The Barge’.
Phil Bood took his sister onto the track in his red na. John
Viveash another Donington track day enthusiast took time off from university and
made the long trip from Bristol for the show, while another member came all the
way from Belfast.
Club technical advisor Alan Jones was in great demand and
spent a lot of the show with his head buried under various bonnets, occasionally
escaping to raid the shows stalls in his never ending search for new tools.
The traditional Saturday night Loughborough pub-crawl and
Indian nosh had a few side effects with several people looking a bit worse for
wear and declining the chance to take their cars on the track.
