O2 SENSOR (4-Wire) REPLACEMENT
Note: These instructions are for the Four-wire, Flange type O2 Sensor (88-89
Models). If you have this type of sensor, be sure that you get the correct part.
Most auto part stores will try to sell you the one-wire sensor.
1. Jack-up rear of car and place on jack stands. It should be noted that if you want to escape those Toyota prices when
replacing your O2 sensor, many have found that the Bosch unit works just as well
as the stock Nippon Denso unit.
2. Disconnect electrical
connector and pull connector snap out of bracket hole.
3. Remove the two
flange nuts (12mm).
4. Pull shield and O2 Sensor off of flange studs.
5.
Remove old gasket. It will probably have to be scraped off.
6. Install new
gasket, O2 Sensor, and shield.
7. Reinstall nuts. It is a good idea to use
new nuts, since the old ones will probably be corroded. (Note: If you replace
with generic nuts, the size is 8M X 1.25)
8. Route cable safely to
connector.
9. Plug electrical connectors together. (Note: Female plug
connections can be cleaned with WD-40 and a toothbrush, if necessary to remove
corrosion.)
10. Insert connector snap into bracket hole.
11. Lower
car.
12. Reset ECU by unplugging AM2 fuse (located in engine fuse box, near
battery) for at least 10 seconds.
