TOWING WARNING

I recently received an E-mail from an owner who had broken down by the roadside. When the recovery vehicle arrived the operator connected a tow rope to the what appeared to be the towing eye below and attached to the front bumper – some MR2s have 2 as shown in the car’s handbook. Unfortunately when he attempted to drive away the MR2 remained stationary as the bumper was pulled off the car. Many members may be unaware that the front bumper suffers from extreme rot, even on cars that appear to be in exceptionally good condition. To check the condition, there is a small gap under the plastic cover below the sidelights, enough to insert a finger where you can feel the rot. The real towing eyes appear to be the large plates bolted to the ends of the chassis rails under the front of the car.
