HANDBRAKE - CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT
1. Check that the handbrake lever travel is correct. (a)
Pull the handbrake all the way up and down two or three times and leave off.
(b) Put your foot hard on the brake pedal two or three times. (c) Pull
the handbrake all the way up without holding the button, and count the number of
clicks. With a 44lb pull there should be 5 – 8 clicks. If
incorrect, adjust as follows:-
(a) Remove the fuel tank protector.
(b) Loosen the adjusting nut and brake cable, and check that the handbrake crank
touches stopper pin. (c) Stretch the brake cable by turning the adjusting nut before the crank begins
moving. (d) Tighten the adjusting nuts. NOTE:
Tighten the adjusting nuts so the equaliser is horizontal to the ground. Torque:
160 kg-cm (12 ft-lb, 16 N-m) (e)
Re-Install the fuel tank protector.
