Hi, I'm buying an AW11 next week, I know it's not in the best hsape of any seen but I think I can bring it to life over a pretty long time (money and time) I have applied for a welding course to give me this essensial skill and I have been looking at hat tools and eqpt I will need. So far I think I'll be able to manage it but mu main concers are how to repair the t-bar as there is some rust on it (probs more under the paint) and the floor pans, I don't know how bad the floor pans are but I'm going to expect totally destroyed so that I'm prepared for the worst. I just want to nkow how I will go about sourcing a replacment for the floor pans and how I will repair the tbar (it's mostly where the windscreen is)

I know all the wheel arches need repaired and the drivers side door sill looks in a bad way. I'm not worried about the wheel arches as these are a common prob and I'm sure I can get all advice and help I need, the sill I'm more worried about as I think I may need to fabricate this myself.

I'm going to be getting the car a week on Sat and I'll post pics and ask for advice.

the interior looks great and it's supposed to run well but I think it will take a hile to resotre.

Would I be best to do a pannel at a time (this wound't start till mid summer) or would I be best to weld off all rust ASAP and prime to prevent it spreading or won't is spread fast enough to worry and do the panel at a time approach.

Please give any and all adcive you can. It's going to be stored ina garage and I'm going to be working thier off a generator as it's the only way I'll be able to do this project.

I'm in Hartlepool so if anyone around thinks that can help please let me know.

I know I have drifted from the main topic of floor pans but I figured I would let you know what I'm getting up at and I'll starts a restoration thread one I make a start.

Liam

hi ,welcome to the world of mk1 restoration , check the floor pans before you start spending money on this car , they normally go on the front where your feet go both sides ,they rust inside out so remove any under seal and remove carpets to check condition of pan and inner sills . the sills can be replaced with mk3 escort sills but will need modification work to fit them .the rust on roof can be a big problem if its bad and you might need to take screen out to repair properly other wise water might get in to car and cause more rust to floor pans . the rear arches can be replaced using Nissan n12 panels but these need mods to fit but are very close to original profile ,has to using a generator for power its going have to big to run a welder as it will cut out on the overload . if you want to save the car go for it , once you can weld and fabricated they cost bugger all to repair
the bodywork, as your time will cost you nothing and the enjoyment in repairing is the car is priceless . good luck with project at don't give up

This the rust on the roof near the window, from what I have seen from the restorations on here I excpect this to be REALLY bad.

Here is the rust in the NS door pillar/sill.

I think this is going to hard to replace. I know I'm going to find this hard and I'm glad you think that I'll be able to manage this. I found out the little generator I'm going to gwt won't run a welder so I'm going to rent a welder when I get to that stage.

Sorry if this is a little incoherient, I'm a little hung over and trying not to wake up the gf.

Hey I have found someone who is wiling to sell me some floor pans on the car he is breaking, he says they are in perfect condition and is asking me what I want to pay for them. I have no idea of the value of these so any ideas would be great.

I presume he's expecting you to cut them out yourself; if so I'd personally feel a bit cheeky asking for anything more than a bit of beer money. I was going to e-mail you myself but I'm down near Hull so thought it would be too far for you.

Cheers,
Tom

no where is to far for me if I can get what I need at a decent price. I don't think he's expecting me to cut them out myself but if he is I think it should be pretty cheap.

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to be uploading pics soon (as soon as my PC is sorted)

Liam
