I read on a previous thread that JBL speakers are a popular upgrade in the MK1. I'm interested in putting some better sound gear in, as in fairness the speakers are a little ropey after 22 years of use. I found these on ebay and was wondering if they would be good choices?

I want to be able to install easily, without having to drill new holes or anything of the like as I don't want to damage the care. Any ideas as to whather this would be possible and whether these speakers are actually any good sound wise? Many thanks!

Hi.

The 3.5" jbl's are one of the popular upgrades and are a direct replacement.
Im not too sure with the other set as the grills are in place.
Alot of speakers have snap off fixing tags but not all. Check before you commit.
Also check your mounting depth as some can have large magnets.

Infinity speakers are the choice speakers for the Mk1 but a little pricey.
Look out for the discontinued lines as they can come up a good price. (all makes)
Remember that the mk1 was never designed for being a concert hall so your direct replacement speakers wont turn it into one.

Heya - ok, I really have very little knowledge of sound gear so am only going on recommendations here. The infinity speakers are better than the JBLs then? Could you give me a link for the 3.5" and 4" that fit direct for the MK1 and I'll be checking them out :D - Thanks!

the 3.5 you list are perfect fit.

i have the infinity but i don't know whether they will be noticably different though, as they are pretty small.
actually i find then almost too crisp.

it s not worth spending £££ unless you are going for a massive upgrade all round

do a goole for infinity 3.5 and see what you can get, go for the 2 prong mounting, btu you can usually break off the mounts you dont need

You cnat beat doing a bit of Google homework.
Amazon is also very useful.
If you replace the front and rear speakers a small underseat subwoofer adds a bit more depth and is not on view.
Kenwood and poineer do units that are not very expensive.
You will find with a a bit of work all the speakers make by one manufacturer to have a matching set.

Hey - cheers for all the input! I'm now leaning towards the idea of getting the JBL 3.5s because I can't find any 3.5 Infinity speakers in the UK and the postage from the US would be expensive...However, what then to use as 4s? I was thinking that these would be ok so long as I could take of the extra fittings.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INFINITY-10cm-2-w ... 51910b0d52

Anyone have any ideas on these? Also, it seems that there are other, more expensive Infinity 4" speakers. Would I be better to get a more expensive set or will these be just fine?

PS, tried to look on Amazon but it seems only the .com has 3.5s and I only found the 4"s I'm looking at on ebay but for £40...
