Spring has finally shown us a glimpse of the nice warm weather yet to come and so with the cut off for discount prices entries due on March 31st, it seemed an appropriate time to send a reminder to everybody of this year’s weekend frolics. This year sees our 12th Annual Heartbeat Mini and Classic Run and our 3rd Annual Heartbeat Mini & Classic 60’s Weekend weekend and what a fabulous and unique weekend it is.

This year’s run follows the new and successful format which we adopted in 2009 for the first time, this being two separate one day events consisting of a static outdoor show and 60’s train travel on Saturday 11th June and the Heartbeat Mini & Classic Run on Sunday 12th June, plus opportunities to take part in the Pickering ‘60’s Music Festival and the North York Moors Railway’s ‘60’s weekend.

Levisham station will again be the venue for our static show which runs officially from 10am – 4pm though arrival can be anytime throughout the day. NYMR is always keen to add more spice to their 60’s weekend and has made us very welcome on both years.

Part of the experience will be the opportunity to purchase two rail tickets for the price of one so that you can ride between any stations from Pickering right up to Whitby for and the sea and harbour where many Heartbeat scenes were filmed. At most stations there will be quality 60’s tribute groups and entertainment plus other vehicles from the era. CAMRA real ale will be available on most if not all trains and at all stations. At Levisham station we once again have a Shadows tribute group playing in a marquee and greeting many trains, before puffing off to the strains of ‘Summer Holiday’ being played live on the platform

Although we can spend all day at Levisham station, joining us on the first day is optional. If you just wish to be part of the Heartbeat Mini & Classic Run on Sunday you can opt out of Saturday’s activities without having to inform us. Your can leave your car at Levisham all day, or stay with it if you wish. Beside the ale there are refreshments available form the station kiosk all day till about 4.30pm. Because of this extra day we can now sign on participants and distribute t shirts, plaques and rosettes early on Saturday

After the day’s entertainment on the railway, Pickering itself comes to life on Saturday night though in truth there is plenty happening there in the day with 60’s nostalgia and memorabilia stalls in the town centre. There is classic car parade commencing at 5pm. Its only a short trip around the town ending in the High St where participants can park between the floats and stages set up for the live music. It is a great atmosphere with a crowd, some dressed in 60’s gear

The run itself commences at the Middleton Arms at North Grimston, a very small village about 5 miles south of Malton on the B1248. Once again Roz the landlady will set you up with tea, coffee, biscuits, bacon and sausage baps.

We will travel to Filey and then on to Scarborough for a photo stop at ‘The Royal’ then down to the seafront for the cruise and more photos. We cruise for about 30 minutes before going up to Whitby and then Goathland (Aidensfield) where we stop for 90 minutes before gathering together to leave the village. Its then over the moors to The Crown at Hutton Le Hole where the run terminates and everybody can sit down to a nice meal and receive a few prizes.

Who else offers such a comprehensive and varied weekend?

Cost of the run is £35 per car to include t shirt, plaque, rosette and copy photo of yopur car via email. The cost reduces to £33 if paid in full by March 31st. Entry forms can be downloaded from website. Cheques to be made payable to R.J. Clark
