Sorry, was in a rush to get the bird to work :p

Hi! I'm Rob, 22 - from Surrey but in my final year of Uni in Leics studying Marketing.
This is my 5th car in as many years:

Astra, which went from 1.4 8v to 1.6 16v to 2.5 V6:

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y234/robsmith86/PICT0012.jpg

Then a 2.0l Focus Ghia - Nice, all the toys, but boring as hell.

So then I got this! BAGS of fun, tuned 1330, monsterously fast, but I was on placement year with Volvo Trucks in Warwick at the time and commuting 70 miles a day... it was a money pit :( but loved it to bits.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y234/robsmith86/DSC_0054.jpg

Then got me a Cally - all the toys, leather, etc but now that I'm in my final year I have absolutely no need for a 2.0l (Ecotec) 4-seater barge when all I'm doing is swanning around town or to the supermarket.

So now I have this :D

It's a late 1992 mk1b if I'm right? Overalll in good condition, just needs a damn good clean. And n/s wing looks like the stone chips have been painted over with a paint brush.

So much fun to drive, and love the old-skool pop up headlights.

(yes, that really does say short of 75,000m)

Welcome!

An interesting and cool car history so far, and the Mk1 looks like it should tidy up alright.

It has a good number plate in-case you continue with your studies too.

Make sure you get involved with the club social events and runs out. :+:

Cheers
Tom

Cheers :)

What's this club's history then? It seems pretty new to me. What's the reason for needing all new threads to be approved?

I've run a couple of Vaux clubs and forums before, and members on countless others!

Welcome,
Nice to see another white "G-reg".Best colour imo :+:
Looks like a decent motor, should scrub up well. :)

Should be a bit quicker than your neighbours car anyway

Hope to see you about, JTB.

Hi there!

My name is Mike, aged 34 and from Liverpool.

I am new to the club too.

I have owned many cars over the years but just the MK1 Mr2.

You have had some great cars, interesting variations!

I liked looking at the pics.

Looks like you have got yourself a nice motor there. Summer, we hope is coming and you can take your new baby out and about!

Take care buddy.

Mike.

Welcome to the Mk1 Club!
Looks like a good 'un - aside from the small bit of rust!
Mk1 aside though (I think my feelings on those are already fairly well known!), that Mini is beautiful. Where's the heart smilie when I need it?

It has a good number plate in-case you continue with your studies too.

 That's what I was thinking too - a good number plate for me... ;)

Yeah - sorry about that! We had a sudden surge of spammers registering and posting rubbish on the forum (and when I say surge, I really mean it! At least 4 an hour...). By forcing peoples first posts to be approved, the spammers can't post and generally go away nice and quick. 8-)
It's far from ideal, but I don't have time to implement the required anti-spam modification at the moment. (Unfortunately I've also not had a chance to put this approval system in writing anywhere yet... I'll do this soon)

The Mk1 Club itself has been around for a number of years. The 'web presence' was renewed at the beginning of this year though, with the new Website & forum to help us establish ourselves more, improve communication amongst and with members and generally help bring the club forward.

Still loads to do, but we're getting there bit by bit.

'Home' home for me is Woking. I went to school at RGS Guildford, and Godalming College, though!

Nope. you would be wrong. The last 'Official' model year for the Mk1 is 1989 but the G plate was issued from August 1989 to July 1990.

Mine is a G plate but it is late August 1989 however my first one which I drove when you were only just out of nappies (how old do I feel  ) was an early 1990 on a G Plate, it was only about a year old.

You are right that it is a Mk1b though :+:

Note that the first Mk2's were issued on a G plate as well.

I wonder who on this forum has the 'newest' Mk1?

LOL reading this thread. I was entered to go to RGS Guildford too (went to Cranmore before that in East Horsley) but ended up moving abroad instead. Somehow found myself back in Guildford in 2001 at Surrey Uni for a few years...
Small World indeed!

My best mate went to Cranmore

Probably a couple of years behind you though :)

Yup that all sounds about right - I was good friends with Mke Brown all through Godalming as well, but he's sodded off to Swansea and Canada now so haven't heard from him in ages.

You do look pretty familiar from your avatar, can't for the life of me remember your surname though

Here's me though, am I who you think?

Lol, yup - do remember you. My surname's Smith!
You were in Valpy too iirc?

(Ah, time to confuse other members with talk of TMSY, CCF, table rugby and F36...) lol the joys of posh grammar schools.

Such a strange small world!

Ben
8th May 2009, 01:59 PM
Lol, yes... well remembered! Valpy were always the underdog, until my final year when I think we won (no thanks to me).

Aah yes. Good old TMSY. He effectively told me the school didn't want me back after my GCSE results. Luckily I'd already decided on Godalming so wasn't such a problem.

I avoided CCF like the plague, all that boot polishing made me a bit nervous :shifty: I tried DoE instead, but got told off for cheating and didn't make it passed Bronze award

So were you driving an Astra at Godalming? I vaguely remember a couple of mk3 Astras knocking around - iirc one had a PA system and under-floor neons that were wired over the exhaust :wtf: You may also remember Mike Brown's short-lived mini (the kitted red one).

Handsome Rob
8th May 2009, 02:09 PM
Lol I thought I remember you guys 'stealing' Mrs Lingard from us down in the Chemistry rooms. I got the same message from TMSY lol.

I had the Astra at Godalming, thought a far sight from the pics on page 1. The one you mentioned was my mate Chewie's and do remember Mike's Mini. I also remember Mike chatting about getting a Mitsi FTO lol.

*Fuck me! Are you seriously engaged to Amie?

Ben
8th May 2009, 02:17 PM
Lol, yes Mike has always been good at chatting
His next car was a Ford Streetka though

Yup I'm engaged to Amie, getting married after we both graduate this summer. About three months away now :)

Handsome Rob
8th May 2009, 04:28 PM
Wow that's crazy. I remember her from college as being 'the one every guy fancied'. Oh, and ask her if she's still in touch with David Ball - he's a good mate of mine (from college) and iirc they both went to school together.

It's a small world!

Ben
8th May 2009, 05:01 PM
Haha I guess I should feel privileged then

I think he's on her FB, not that that means much anymore. I'll ask her though :+:
