Hi all,

As I'm giving organising a go I thought I'd list a couple of regular pub meets that I currently attend. This would be the easiest way to meet up with new people and not be only a group or 2 or so. (Not that there's anything wrong with that :))

I organised and attend monthly a meeting at the Triton Inn at Brantingham (HU15 1QE), which is close to South Cave/Hull and Beverley. I only started it up in the late summer but by the second meeting had various cars including a Ferrari 348, Porsche 996 GT2, several TVR's and a VXR220. It is attended mainly by people off of Pistonheads.com, and the East Yorks lot are a good bunch, with anyone being welcome.

This is held on the 3rd Monday of every month from 7pm onwards. So, the next ones are:

16th February 2009
16th March 2009
20th April 2009

I will also be organising a run out on a weekend off the back of this meeting around March/April time and will post up details.

The other Pistonheads meeting that I have attended is in Leeds (BD11 1JJ), just off the M62, at the Railway Pub in Drighlington. This is again from 7pm onwards and is on the 2nd Monday night of each month, so:

9th March 2009
13th April 2009

The busiest event I went to last summer had nearly 40 cars including a Lancia Stratos replica, a smattering of Ferraris, a Lambo Gallardo, a fully prepped Escort rally car and loads of other fine machinery. I turned up in my then 'N' reg Audi A6 quattro estate and people had no qualms with that at all and everyone chatted on an equal ground.

As I've only had my MR2 since September I really want to take it to as many meets as possible and if anyone else would be interested in making any of these dates then post up here and I'll make sure I get to them!

Also, if anyone has any possibly venue choices/locations for MR2 only meets then please feel free to post them up here. Whether it be York, Leeds, Sheffield or Hull area I can travel to any. Also, if anyone south of the Humber, ie. Lincoln area, wanted to meet then feel free!

Sorry for the long opening post!

Cheers
Tom

Tom,

The meeting in Drighlington is good for me. Only live about 5 miles away. The one in Hull is a bit far. Done a lot of meets and shows over the years with my old mini's and my bikes but not been to a Mr2 one yet.

I will make one in at the Railway on 13th April. Can't make one in March, I am working.

Keep me informed if you are going.

Cheers

Hi Sturge,

Great! I'll make sure I'm at the April one then! They sometimes have a little tunnel run into Leeds afterwards too. :+:

See you around.

Hi Gordon,

Cool, I'll make the trip across then, with you and Sturge coming. :+:

I half live in York and normally leave my car on Micklegate over-night when I stay there.

I'll be organising a monthly MR2 Mk1 meet for the Yorkshire area and probably having it between York, Leeds and Beverley/Hull. I'll post on here once I've found a good location thats fairly central for people to travel to.

In-fact, thinking on, I might be in York on the night of the 13th before heading down to the Leeds meeting so will post up on here and we could convoy down?

Cheers
Tom

Well I am also in Yorkshire, and have two red ones, although one is going tomorrow. The nearest big meet is Tatton Park and it really is worth going to. I shall be going to both Tattons and JAE so if anyone else fancies them let me know. I know you have your name down for Tatton Tom so I will see you there unless you want to meet up and drive over Woodhead together.

Hi Tommy,

Good to see another Yorkshire member posting in here. :)

As for Tatton, I was thinking about heading over that way anyway as it beats nearly 80 miles of the M62! We'll organise something closer to the time mate.

I'll get out and about in the next week or so to get a few suggestions for a monthly meet location too.

Cheers

Hi Tom,

Just to introduce myself. I live in Tadcaster and have an early Mk1a which is currently SORN.

I am not active at the moment as I have just come out of hospital following a hernia operation and looking forward !!! to a knee operation in the next couple of months. This all means I cant start restoring my car until late summer at the earliest.

I will be replacing the whole suspension, fitting Mk1b brakes, changing both front wings plus whatever needs doing once I take the front end apart. The drivers side rear wheel arch needs replacing and the A & B pillar bottoms need looking at on both sides. I then want to get it resprayed in its original Mk1a finish with black eyebrows and bumpers etc.
I am not a welder or sprayer so hope to get Paul Woods or someone to do that for me.
While I am at it I will drop the engine to clean, paint and generally tart up, including fitting a Mongoose exhaust and K&N filter.

I hope to get it all finished in time for the NEC show in November as Michael has earmarked a slot for me.

Thats about it. I will probably start a thread once I get working on it. I know its going to cost me more than it will be worth but as it is one of the first in UK - registered two days after they went on sale, I think it is worth keeping rather than scrapping.

Regards

Douglas

Hi Douglas,

Nice introduction. :+:

Best of luck with the recovery so that you can get the MR2 finished and back on the road. It should be like new after all that work! :)

Mine is a very early mk1a too, registered in the april and VIN number ~#12000. Mine was pretty mint when I got it but I am currently doing a set of wheels for it and re-spraying bits of window surround trim etc. at a time. It's my daily driver though so I can't take it off the road and get everything done in one foul swoop.

I re-sprayed my front valance myself and it came up alright, and it's only going to get stone chipped again anyway so doesn't have to be concourse! I'm also keeping an eye out for a stainless exhaust as my current standard one is looking a bit tired.

I'll be after your slot at the NEC if you don't take it. ;)

Anyhow, May should see the first Yorkshire meeting and hopefully you and others will come along and introduce themselves.

Cheers
Tom

The Brantingham meet was good a few weeks ago.

A fellow MR2 owner turned up after spotting the thread on here, but I've shamefully forgotten your names.

Here is their recently purchased car:

Something quite special turned up too, the 8th UK registered Nissan GTR! Less than 2 weeks old, which gave for a good 80's, 90's, 00's shot:
