View Full Version : Gauging Interest Full silicon radiator Hose Kits for the Mk1

Tiny

Hi guys i was talking to a hosing supplier who makes hose kits for alot of different car companies inc a 4AGE AE86 set up after seeing a Kit they made on a friends AE86 and its Very good quality.

I gave them a ring asking would they be interested in making a silicon hose set (in a range of colours) for the Mk1 and they would be :+:

Im gathering a full set of rad hoses tomorrow to send to them and that have said they will do a special price for the club once they have the Jigs set up which they said normally takes about a month to get right/fully test.

So Not sure on price but we are talking about £50-60+postage for similar kits with the same number of hoses. we can probably get the postage down by sending them to a few people who then distribute to local members. :+:

What do you think

Vyizis

Sounds good to me! So long as they can do yellow :D

Depending on quality, price, colour and which hoses will be in the kit, count me in :+:

vaccuum hosing in any colour is v easy to find and would match most samco type stuff without getting it from them.

Had a nice phone call with a chap in Japan today and they will happily make up the full kit we discussed their manufacturing and testing process and im happy that they could make replacment parts for some of the aircraft i work on.

Only thing is they can only do either Yellow or Blue for the kit. :problem:

If you struggle with these guys\want more colour options, I deal with a company that doesn't currently do mk1 hoses but will make some up if a certain number of people (I'll have to find how many they would need).

They offer them in Blue - Red - Purple - Yellow - Green - Black-Orange

Just another thought for you if you wanted more colours.

Tiny
2nd February 2009, 07:37 PM
please do if they are abit more local than Japan the prices may be cheaper :+:

Paff
2nd February 2009, 07:58 PM
Yep they are UK based,

Shall drop them a mail\ give them a call and see what they say.
I might need to send a set pipes off to them so they can price it up, shall see if I have a full set to send in my box of pipes.

Oh and Vyizis, they do Vacuum piping in Blue, red, yellow and black.

I think that if going to the effort of getting a kit sorted then the full colours options would be far better (esp seeing how many people would want red too i guess..., and glad they have orange ;) )

I will keep an eye out for your updates :+:

Well I've emailed them but my contact didn't make it in today (something about snow apparently :) ). They know my request now and hopefully will get back to me asap.

Oh this company also supply different types of clamp, the silicon tape in different colours, reducers, angles, bends. So anything custome we could possibly do as well. They also have the bulge pipes like those used on the SC's etc.

I've only just come accross this topic but I'd also be very interested, but only if there was a choice of colours I'm afraid.

Paff
5th February 2009, 08:21 PM
Ok, bit of news today.

The guy I deal with will do the hoses happily.
However he can't give me a price until he's had the original pipes to see what is needed.
I've got to dig out the OE hoses (don't really want to rip them off my car.

Once they have them and have given the price we will need between 10-15 people in on it before they will make the silicon copies.

After that first batch tho they won't have a minimum order, its just to make it worth thier while to set up the tooling.

Tiny
5th February 2009, 10:12 PM
Ill be very interested in a set in black do all the initial 10-15 all have to be the same colour?

The Silver Fox
5th February 2009, 11:07 PM
I'm interested in a set in black as well

Paff
6th February 2009, 12:33 AM
Doesn't matter the colour, the 10-15 sets is just to get the numbers to make up the tooling. :)

Just one question....

Does anyone have a complete set of hoses already off thier car that they could spare, if not no problem I'll dig around my hose boxes to work out the set :)

mr2mk1chick
6th February 2009, 01:25 PM
I have a set of hoses that Crazylegs gave me to look into this very thing for the mk1 club.
I never got the momentum to send the hoses off.
You are welcome to pick them up from Leicster (Your location is not in your profile...)

Paff
6th February 2009, 01:37 PM
Ah down in Newport, South Wales so a bit far to pick them up :(

Never mind, I have to have a set somewhere I can use.
Cheers for the offer tho :)

mr2mk1chick
6th February 2009, 05:41 PM
Ok

I also had a thought: when i was going to try and do this for the mk1 club shop i was going to get a price for club members etc.
If you are short of numbers to get the first batch made up, then mabe contact Richrad Brett (club shop) to see if this would still be viable. this way it will be a benefit to club members. It may be possible for the club to pre-purchase a number but not get them made up till the orders come it to get the customers colour chioce. (i guess the company just will want 'x' amt to start a new run.
I guess once they have made the mould then it would be possible to get futher orders made up as required one by one.

SteveM

I forgot to reply to this...
Yes please. Red or black if available (though as the car is red, I'll probably take black).

And I'll find out what similarities are with the SC - if I can use them (even some/most) on the SC as well, I'll take two sets... (cos I'm gonna have to buy some new pipes for it anyway)

If worst comes to the worst I should have a mk1 in somtime soon for a V6 conversion so might be able to steal the pipes that are removed from there.

Hi . I don`t want to muscle in on anybody`s act, but I have contacted Samco & the do supply a kit via their agent Merlin Motor sport at Castle Combe, for £197.04 including VAT & carriage. . Most colours available. Would do a group buy of 10 @ 10% discount each in separate colours. & ship individual requirements direct. Problem is they need cash up front. Provided we got cash from 10 members that is no problem. Take a look at Merlin`s website & access product no TCS379/C & let me know if you are interested.

Cheers Richard :D

The one on ebay is the mk2 REV1 kit also.

They DO NOT yet make a kit for the MK1.

I still think china is our best bet for these. the companies out there that i spoke to seem to think they could make one for about the £100 mark all we needed was a full set of hoses to send them and a minimum order of ten or so to make the full kit and the designs worth while. :+:

It's just a thought, do you think there'd be any point in us all emailing Samco direct? When I did this a few months ago I was told they were considereing introducing a kit for the MK1 but hadn't got round to it yet and couldn't give me any timescales. If they start get enough seperate enquires though it may well be enough to persuade them it's worth producing a kit?

Here's a link if anyone wants to give it a go :)

Hi Colin,

Could you send in a full set of hoses off the Mk1, labeling each hose with
details of its function and location on the engine. I can then give you a
quote for the hose kit.

Best regards,

Hi all,

since things did not seem to move, I've contacted Samco directly and linked them to the thread to show them that there was an interest in the kit.

They are ok to manufacture it as long as they get a complete set of hoses (as written before) but so far nobody has sent them anything.

Since I'll be taking the engine off my car this summer, I offered to send them my hoses for them to assess the feasability and give us a price and the number of orders required to make it happen. But if anyone has a complete set of hoses available by all means send them to SAMCO, that will speed things up.

Neil Silicon hoses has been an ongoing thing for years, no onehas ever got it as far as production, I spoke to these guys a few years ago and they were willing to make a set from patern hoses, at that point Jo (mr2mk1chick) took the project on but at that time she was pretty (well she's always been pretty!) much doing everything for the club plus arranging her wedding, so it never got as far as sending a set of hoses off for estimates to production costs. Plan was that they were going to be available from the club shop, anyway waffle over contact these guys for a company willing to take the project on

Ollie, are the hoses the same for an N/A and an SC?

The hoses are for an NA Kate but the SC will be very similar

The specialist I am ordering these from is confident they can be made to fit a SC, they are based near Luton so not a million miles away. Supplied and Fitted cost (via the group buy) and including a coolant flush and pressure test would be estimated at £225 for the SC or £200 for an NA

Ooh, that is interesting. Problem is funds are a bit low at the moment and I would have to cancel my Christmas presents to my son, is there a time limit on this?

No not at all Kate, they are available now at £160 for the NA but I thought a group buy might be better. If not enough takers then they can be bought one by one.

I think the ones i'm having done will be cheaper than that as they will be doing a longer run. Around £130 to £140 at a guess, but i will not know for sure for a week or so.
Also available in a choice of colours.
