Hi Bill
I hope me and my son can make both of these events this year, are you organising on your own or with Kirsty? Hopefully the weather will be kinder than last August.
Cheers

Agreed Tommy - lets hope for some decent weather for Tatton this year!

Anyone outside the NW region fancy it?

Bill please put me down for Saturday :+:

The best shows of the year are held at Tatton!
One in May the other in August.

They said we get a better plot this year because the Mrk1 Mr2 display was so good last year !! 8-)

Has the club pitch booking been made? I remember they get booked pretty quickly.

In hand....

Or more detail, I have requested 20 passes for each day, plus camping spots, I'm not sure what that means but I've done it.

I'll be taking -firm- bookings for spaces soon, and requests from Mk1 club members will be given first option.

So what to expect, Tatton Park is south west of Manchester in the grounds of a stately home, I think it is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) car show type events in the North West of England. There are over 50 car clubs exhibiting, and a huge auto jumble/accessory trade show. It is a very informal event which is very unusual for such a large event. Addmission is free with a club car pass (two people) or on the gate for about a tenner..

If you decide you would like to attend, camping is available, catering and a beer tent are on site. There are a number of local hotels. The club stand is hosted by the North-West area, we are a friendly bunch and you will be made welcome.

Although there are prizes awarded for various classes, (including MR2 Mk1), we do not expect to see concourse cars, it is a show of members cars and all examples are made very welcome.

We usually lay on food and drinks (coffee and biccys) and if we are confident about the weather :shh: a barbeque.... :P

Contact, post here, me via PM, or by email to mailto: norwestmk1club@btinternet.com

The MK1 club Gazebo stays open later

Although this year it would be a good idea not to put it up with a tree in the middle of the door, after a few beers everyone walked into it :wtf:

There is also a really good beer tent with music.

Packing to go camping with the dog almost takes as much stuff as for us LOL.
Make sure you take a ground stake or something so that he can be secured if you go to the loo or anything etc. or if you think he will break out of the tent in the night just to be safe :+:

Really?? Why is this Bill? I dont mean this in an argumentative manner, but I've never been to any event/show etc with a car club & so really have no idea what goes on. Would I be throwing a spanner in the works by arriving late morning/early afternoon on Saturday?

I'll be travelling from near Cardiff so a 9am arrival time is gonna be a challenge to say the least...especially as I'll be bringing my 12-yr old son!!!

Maybe it would be better/more realistic to come up on Friday night?

The reason Mark is that the show gets really busy and the cars need to be on the stand before the public arrive. It was an early start for me last year so I am also thinking that Friday night after school finishes might be a better choice :+:

We are coming over on the Friday evening too.

We have attended Tatton in the past where it has been so busy that they stop letting cars with passes in after 10:30am and make them park with the turnstile visitors.

From past experience the organiser will issue more tickets than the capacity can take as there are always no-shows

John Redmond
7th May 2009, 09:11 PM
Would I be throwing a spanner in the works by arriving late morning/early afternoon on Saturday?
Tatton is very weather dependant, if the sun is shining you cannot move on the roads for people, therefore it is very difficult to drive to the pitch. If you are really late ( early afternoon ) the organisers might park you with the public. Before 9 is an ideal, but if you are a little late, you stand a chance. But you can always park and walk to the pitch and we will do our best to get you in. If it is good weather, you will find that you are queuing for some time to get in.

If you are camping, you will be able to set your tent from Friday afternoon onwards, the Ticket allows entry from lunch time/ early afternoon, and many hands make light work etc.. :+:

I was thinking that as well, last year we camped behind the stand which is in the trees, but on that plan it shows Vauxhalls and Opels in the trees (actually quite a good place to hide them).

Maybe we will be in the middle of the big trees which is where the drivers club camped last year, I guess we will find out on the day :)

The list is from my excel master, Mark Kingston unfortunately has canceled, Vyizis has not been in contact. So 18 MK1's over the weekend, I hope you all enjoy the event!

I have one ticket left so a chance for anybody who would to come along.

I've made a slight bo-bo, some of the tickets have 'tent' written on them, if you are not camping, and have one of these, could you do a swap with the campers with no 'tent' tickets. I haven't noticed this before, and I have a couple of tickets myself with tent on them so I can help out if it's an issue.

I'll bring a cool box with soft drinks and some snacks, if anyone has a camping stove I'll bring milk coffee, etc.

Cheers

Yes, unfortunately I was pulled from the hat at work & am now "On-Call" on the Friday night. The on-call period finishes at 0830 Saturday, therefore I felt it only fair to allow somebody else the opportunity to use my ticket as I would only have been able to make it on Sunday. Also, Cardiff - Tatton return, in one day is a bit of a trek with a 12 year-old in tow!! ;)

John - I collected my ticket yesterday & as far as I can tell its not a "tent" one, I will post it back to you tomorrow so there will be 2 spares now :+:

Am really gutted to have missed out but hopefully I'll be able to make it next time around.

All the best for a crackin weekend guys :+:

I don't think the tent tickets will matter much, once you are in no one checks anything and if you are staying all weekend (which I am) then you should be OK.

I have a stove John so we will be able to make drinks etc, although I suspect I shall be drinking cold drinks most of the weekend :D

Let's hope the weather is kind to us :+:

I'm looking forward to this.
I need to get my tent out of hibernation this weekend to make sure it still looks okay and all the bits/pegs are there.
I will prob bring a disposable BBQ, but rest of time will either buy food or do stuff that you just pour water on (pot noodle, couscous, instant onion mash pots, supernoodles etc). This way there is no washing up stuff to bother about, and don't have to bring washing up associated stuff. I may bring the camping stove to pop a kettle on, but thats it - no pots and pans.

Stuff to remember (if this helps anyone) in no particular order:
Tent & pegs etc
air bed & electric pump
bedding & pillow
foldaway chairs (essential for evening sitting by campfire)
dog bed/dog bowl/food/poop bags/toy/lead*
disposable BBQ & 1 untensil:'food prodder'
cool box & ice packs
BBQ food/ pot noodles/ mini breakfast cereals/ long life milk
beer
more beer & maybe wine
snacks/nibbles to create/complement beer thirst
toiletries & spare loo roll
some extra clothes
rain coat & umbrella
car washing/final tarting-up stuff (lets put on a good show)
ticket
Wallet/handbag**/phone/in-car charger/sat nav

*not required if not bringing a dog
**not mandatory, but useful

I would like to thank John and Bill for organising this fantastic event. I also need to thank John
for the supply of pop on the Sunday which really helped after our very late night on Saturday.
It was a pleasure as always to put faces to usernames, this event has to be one of the best on
the club calander, even more so when the sun shines. Here are a few pictures of the stand which
had 13 cars on the Saturday and 14 on the Sunday.

Well that was a fantastic weekend! :D :+:

It's the best event of the year and by a long way in my opinion. The atmosphere, the beautiful surroundings, the fantastic cars on show, the lack of "boom boom boom" brigade, the company, sitting around the campfire in the evening, etc etc etc it's a much more enjoyable event than JAE in my humble opinion.

Well done to Jon and Bill (and also Neil on the MR2DC stand) for organising everything, a sterling job done by all

It was great to see everyone, the old crowd and also a load of new people I didn't know.

There's another event in August and I highly recommend this event to anyone that hasn't been before. Please book your diaries!

Just too say, thanks again to all on the stand, you made Jack (my son) and I feel very welcome :) It was a brilliant show and brilliant weather :)

Just one thing, mr2mk1chick you say....

the MK1's on the stand were an extremely good turnout, and very high standard (made our track car look like a real nail.

My car (the Black MK1a) is by no means perfect, and for me personally, whilst it is great to see "show and shine" cars, I actually prefer looking at used and "cosy!?" cars that people use on a regular basis. On one stand I saw a tired, but obviously loved ford Anglia 105E, complete with a different coloured patch of filler over the headlight bowl. My childhood came rushing back to me as I remembered a shopping trip with my Dad getting back into our tired old Anglia, a real high point of the day for me, and well worth the trip to the show :)

I guess what I am trying to get at is, don't worry about the state of our cars, different things appeal to different people!

One thing that Jack said made me realise this more than ever, he had noticed that the MR2 stand had a steady stream of people coming on to have a look/chat and even some to have a sit in my car, while the Ferrari stand, was almost empty of people, I can only assume that people were too scared/intimidated (myself included) to ask for a closer look.

Anyway ;) thanks to all who organized the event! :)

A great weekend had by all!

It was good meeting some new faces and chatting to some great people! A nice turn-out of MR2's and well done for the 2 prizes (1st and 3rd in Best Japanese Sports Car) that we got. 8-)

The campfire was good and I managed to be part of the last men and women standing both nights, 4am and 5am. :D

E-type Jag's were two-a-penny! I remembering hearing the tannoy mentioning something about the TVR stand at 3pm but thought it was a raffle or a lost child announcement. Only when I saw a video on youtube I found out they'd done an orchestral start-up en masse.

Cheers to Tommy for the much needed bacon butties in the morning and to the people that complimented my car, even though it was hidden at the back. :(

I'll hopefully make the August one as it was an excellent show.

I'll post pics up later, just going to take advantage of the weather to do some car work this afternoon.

A lot of memories and funny moments throughout, too much to write about everything. Oh, and Bill, you're a legend with your pearls of wisdom and stories of time since past. :)

Ferrari stand
What Ferrari stand?... Oh, you mean the fake ones with the Italian flag's and owners wearing Ferrari T-shirts.

To be fair the classic replica's looked okay, the Daytona one particularly, and the Countach was nicely done.

Cheers again.
