I certainly will be attending this even with Ken and believe I will be involved in the classic parade around the famous circuit, looking forward to that.

Having gone in 06 and 08, I was really hoping to go this year. But it's getting really expensive. :(
2006: £15 per car - that's £15 for two people for a day. (I got that ticket last minute)
2007: £20 per car per day or £35 for all 3 days - booking it as late as July! (I pulled out last minute)
2008: Booked before the 30th June was £25 per day. (£20 on friday) (I only went one day, can't remember the price for all 3 days, but it was still less than this year)

I really really really wanted to do the parade lap this year (my car is 20 around then, so it seemed fairly fitting) from Newport Pagnell and all three days but am gonna have to think about this. Really unimpressed at the price hike this year. I may just go for one day.

I really hope there's more members this year though, compared to last year... It really is a great day/weekend out!

Ken Richard Brett has confirmed attending all weekend as its bringing the shop. He suggests a better site than last year? apparently the DC nicked a fair chunk of our pitch??

Oh that is a bit expensive!

Ken Richard Brett has confirmed attending all weekend as its bringing the shop. He suggests a better site than last year? apparently the DC nicked a fair chunk of our pitch??

Apparently there was a bit of an argument over the pitch last year, but yes, the DC did nick a part of our pitch and it was impossible to really distinguish where one ended and the other started.
Particularly cheeky as the DC had Mk2s there too... (As much as I like the Mk2, not really a classic in my opinion)

mr2mk1chick
2nd February 2009, 10:49 PM
Yep - the first 2 years we had a great pitch on the grass
Then the DC decided to attend, so we got lumped next to their expanse on the tarmac - it was a bit poor the first time next to them, then last year they took the P and hogged most of the area.
I suggest someone backs up Ken and holds out for a grass pitch (need to speak to the organisers) or definately request a pitch away from the DC

I really is a great show though :+:

bill hulme
18th February 2009, 10:40 PM
I know Ken Salmon had a word with the organizer about the pitch, and how unhappy
we were about it , We were told we would be on the grass this year! I hope this is the
case, As its hard knocking tent pegs into concrete to put the gazebo up but is great fun trying, But what a fantastic show well worth the trip.
Bill.

cool - the grass pitches are lovely unless it rains

Right, I'm gonna try to go to this.
I know we won't get close to the MX-5 club's numbers (they had 200 cars last year!!!) but it'd be nice to have more than a handful there. Who's going?
I'll buy my ticket later this month (apparently the reduced rate applies to end of April, not end of March?)...

Is Ken organising the stand again this year?
Found out the organising company of the event has changed this year - which is presumably why the entry prices have risen so much.

Need to check dates yet but might be up for this one again. Hell of a lot to see, 2 days better than one but blimmin pricey. Silverstone sent me an invite to do the Classic rally thing again, and it's almost worth it as if you're going for two days it doesn't add a lot.

3 MR2's on the parade lap, would that rub the establishment up the wrong way? Japanese cars, at a classic car show. What sort of riff raf are they letting in......

Have to agree on price, is it because the word "Silverstone" is used and we charge what we like...... if I win the lottery by then we will be there

Good to have 3 cars on the Parade Lap though :+: :+:

Probably cashing in while they can, next year Silverstone will just be the circuit that used to have the British Grand Prix........

Karl & lou where the selected car couple last year, For the trip around Silverstone track you could have a word with them,

The camping is mainly on a slope and is in about 5 lanes, with only small flat area in each lane, I would suggest setting up the tents first, to get a good spot, As I will have my trailer tent, I will do this first,
I will try to be at the campsite for 11.30am I have to drive 160 miles.

I don't finish work till 1.00, so we aim to at the campsite by 3.00 (I have a Jinxy to wait for :silent:  ). Apparently the first to arrive at the campsite can reserve the rest of us spot's so we can camp together?

Happy to bring anything along, as will be in my car (Grand Vitara) so have space :+:

What a superb weekend guys !!!, sun, cars, drink, food, Mk1's & loads of friends...... what else could anyone want ??.

Friday afternoon we met up with Mike & Jo sheavills & Bill Hulme at the Lakeside camping area close to Silverstone circuit in the village of Whittlebury, we quickly set up camp & after a quick chat & opening of a few bottles of cider, we headed off to the circuit on foot to watch the evenings entertainment in the form of Toploader, Blue, & the Pussy cat dolls ( where's the Drool smilie when you need it ? ) Michael said the walk was only 10 mins ( note to myself never believe a thing Michael says ) it was more like an hours trek across fields, farm tracks & over gates etc before we got there !!, when we arrived we were confronted by the biggest concert stage youve ever seen, we quickly found a good viewing point which just happened to be next to the VIP area & Joanne spotted brother & sister act "Same Difference " from last years X Factor, Michael then spotted Shane Ward again from X Factor & Debs spotted John Altman AKA "Nasty Nick" from Eastenders & Jason Gardner one of the Strictly Ice skating Judges, there were a few other familiar faces there that we couldnt put a name to, anyway we watched Blue for a while & then came The Pussycat dolls who put on a very good show.... especially for the lads :+: , it started to get cold so we headed back to the main entrance to hail a cab to take us back to camp, none could be found until one pulled into the main entrance, so Jo ran over to ask if he could take us to camp, but he was waiting for someone, so we rang around a few numbers to no avail, then we saw Same Difference ask the driver if he was for hire too, but they were turned away  Jo then went back to the driver & managed to pursuede him to take us to camp. After chatting for a while we all crashed out for the night.
Saturday the cars were polished & we headed to the circuit & onto the club pitch for the day where we met, Max, John, Ken, Richard Brett, & Stuart Goodacre, Stuart & Chris Kynoch & a few other familiar faces :+: , Michael & Jo took part in the Retro run for most of the morning so the rest of the day was spent looking at the classic race cars & doing a bit of Autojumble shopping & watching some classic racing, we also spotted some formation flying from 7 classic planes overhead in the afternoon.
Sunday we met a few more faces at the circuit & most of the day was spent chilling out & photographing cars & then watching the cars who took part in the retro run do their lap of honour around the circuit, Bill Hulme kept us entertained as usual  , it was a fantastic weekend & i would urge anyone who has never been before to attend this event in the future.
Just a few pics of the weekend :+: cheers, Jinxy

Fantastic weekend, it had everything, superb classic motorsport, an amazing car show with the most unbelievable cars I have ever seen, myself and Jinxy found ourselves drooloing over a Ferrari Enzo in maroon for ages, sorry girls ! What a fantatic display of Ferraris, you name it they were there, F40, F50, 348, 360, 308, 328, 355, 430, Dino's, amazing to see them all lines up.

I completed the retro run on the Saturday morning, 100 miles through supeb roads of Warwickshire, Oxfordshire and Northampton, after the run I got to do 2 laps of the Silverstone circuit.

A must for next year !!

LOL at some of the pics.

Nice turnout of MK1's. and looks like the club was given a much nicer pitch this time round.

Its always amazing at how many ferraris actually are all in one place. 8-)

Its nice to do a few parade laps around the circuit, but be assured its even better at full speed in the mk1 round there on a trackday :+:
SIlverstone GP is ace

At Spa circuit we met Rowan Atkinson who had whizzed over straight from racing at silverstone classic - i guess he was racing in his E-Type. They arrived at Spa after their artic got there with a lovely D-Type, E-Type, and Lister :+:
