Been on this forum a good while now and learned ALOT about Mk1's!

Bought locally from an enthusiast near me as I fancied an MR2 to make perfect and help me deal with a bereavement.

You can read the info below or just look here for EVERYTHING that has been done to this car !

Inspection underneath welcome as I have a pit.

Very well serviced over the years - many receipts
MOT til August 2020
Body work is tidy and the arches are fine, sills, floor good. under sealed and solid

When I first bought it in May 2016, mechanically, it seemed in VGC on first glance.
It was fitted with K+N filter, had just had an oil change and the oil was so clean it was like honey !
Distributor seal replacement had been done
Manual choke conversion done. Oil pressure healthy

I later discovered room for improvement with exhaust, engine, suspension and brakes.

Since ownership I have improved, repaired and replaced the following:

Body: Sills and rear panels have been completely restored with factory metal - no over plating!
Excellent condition overall - polishes up well
I gave it a full clay / polish and detailed the engine bay including repaint of cam cover, removed underseal over-spray and full check underneath. Repainted / wax oiled many componants underneath such as Antiroll bars and brackets.
Viewing underneath this car welcome!

Engine:
Flushed cooling system
Replace oil and filter after 2000 miles
Repainted rocker cover in original Toyota colours
Checked condition of cams and internally engine looks like new with no sludge or yellowing of alloy parts!
Definitely only done @ 50000 miles and had regular oil changes
Fitted new gaskets to rocker cover
Realigned TPS as it was jerky to drive slowly
Cleaned Throttle body and adjusted idle
Fitted new fuel tank (original one was rusty inside and causing power loss)
Replaced Fuel pump and cleaned all pipes
Fitted fresh fuel filter
Cleaned out injector filter mesh (found no debris)
Checked the Fuel / Air ratio using Wideband to make sure it was running correctly
Fitted new Alternator belt
Checked Cambelt condition - OK
Replaced Rear engine mount bush to stabilise gear stick movement in Fifth
Gearbox is perfect - no noises or crunches and doesnt jump out of gear or even try to !
Changed Gearbox Oil as a matter of course and replaced with GL4 gear oil
Lubricated Gear linkages
Removed Breather pipe from chassis rail, replaced valve and fitted carbon canister to cure the usual petrol smell issue
Fitted Battery isolator switch to prevent battery going flat when not driven

Suspension:
It had had KYB dampers fitted to the front already but rear was bouncy and handling felt like a boat so...
Fitted Full poly bush kit to front and rear as 28 year old bushes were cracking
Replaced rear shocks with KYB's repainted the struts and springs
Painted suspension rear wishbones and tie rods
Replaced all 4 Lower ball joints
Replaced Rear Antiroll bar drop links as they were seized on when I reconditioned rear struts
Replaced front track rod ends
Wheel alignment done - handling pin sharp like a gokart now !

Wheels + Tyres
I have a full set of 5 original tear drop wheels with decent cheap tyres which I will throw in if I get asking price
I upgraded wheels by fitting JR Racing Bronze wheels and new Toyo 195/50/15 CF2 tyres for safety in the wet and better grip all round

Brakes:
Replaced all pads with EBC Ultimax Pads
Fitted new front discs - Rear discs were new already
repainted calipers darker red
The calipers are in very good condition with each piston's zinc plating still shiny and pistons are free to move
Brake fluid Water content less than 1%

Exhaust:
Replaced Exhaust manifold gasket
Replaced all nuts and bolts and retapped /replaced exhaust studs
Checked manifold for cracks while off and painted the heat sheilds.
Replaced Exhaust for Stainless magnex system - no loud but now a lovely sporty sounding tone - unlike the cheap mild steel system which sounded like a van !
Bought a replacement rubber hanger to better isolate

Interior:
Fixed Speaker problems (one was not working)
Rewired alarm system wiring as original fitment was a mess!
Fitted original Leather Steering Wheel and Gear knob. (Lovely feel in comparison to rubber and plastic!)
replaced rear mirror with mint one as the silver was degrading
Added a clear UV filter film to the inside of the sunroof glass - to lower heat and UV rays on a hot day
Interior is Perfect.

I bought the car with 46700 miles on the clock and initially was surprised that such a nice car had 6 previous owners. I later found out that it had an intermittent fault whereby the car lost power after driving for 20 minutes which must have plagued previous owners into selling it on. After 1500 miles of head scratching and borrowing bits and testing everything electrical and mechanical, I found out that it had a rusty fuel tank and required a new coil and igniter! Thankfully Its perfect now with a perfect new looking tank and the fault is fixed.

Why am i selling ?
I am so incredibly impressed with the handling of this MR2 that I want to buy one with more power such as a 2zz 190bhp or a turbo converted one so i can try my hand at track days in an MR2 MK1. This MR2 is far too nice to take round a race track and I think I have made sure that whoever owns this car will be buying a decent well maintained car with no nasty surprises or faults so my plan is to sell this and then seach for a nice modified example or buy one with a dead engine and good bodywork and convert it myself. so there you have it !

I want around £6995 for this car and in no rush to sell.

Sorry to hear your letting this one go but glad your aiming for another one.
It seems a well sorted car and worth every penny your asking for it.
