Hi all,

Welcome to the official thread for the 2018 Silverstone Classic (https://www.silverstoneclassic.com/welcome)!

4510

Intro
Whether you've been before or if it's your first time thinking about attending, the Silverstone Classic really is the no. 1 classic and historic car event of the year. Not only do you get over 10,000 cars on display, but there's also racing from dawn until dusk from Friday until Sunday. There's so much to do that it can be overwhelming, but it's got something for everyone. Once you've purchased your ticket, pretty much everything inside the circuit is included. This covers a free fair ground, open access to lots of stands that at the F1 would cost you over £400 for a weekend ticket. You also have full access to all of the pits and can get as close as you dare to the cars. There's nothing like being in the pits when dozens of historic F1 cars are exiting onto track; truly exhilarating! There are also off road experiences, Jaguar drifting experiences and in years gone by there have been reverse steering Citroen 2CV challenges as well as many other bits of entertainment off track.

Once it gets to the evening, you're treated to a great line-up of free music on Friday and Saturday night including acts like Status Quo, Suzi Quattro, Adam Ant, Bonnie Tyler, Reef, The Stranglers and more!

On top of all of this, you'll get to display your MR2 to the public and will get to chat to likeminded fans of the MR2 throughout the weekend.

Promo Video

I've put together this short promo video to give you a brief overview of what to expect at the Classic! :)

Tickets
Ticket sales through the clubs two-for-one offer have now finished. You can still buy tickets via the Silverstone Classic website, but we can't guarantee that you'll be able to get your Mk1 on the club stand.

Camping
Camping is paid for separately and by yourself direct to Woodlands or another camp site if you choose so. It's a great laugh on Woodlands, as we normally co-ordinate setting up together. It's £49 per person, but that covers you from Thursday, and you can stay until Monday I think if you like. The facilities are excellent and it's probably the craziest campsite you'll ever see in terms of the cars on show. You can buy the tickets online via the below link:

https://silverstoneclassic.seetickets.com/event/silverstone-classic/silverstone/1160542

Racing
The line-up for the 2018 Silverstone Classic extravaganza will feature the most exciting racing action from historic Formula One, sports cars, ‘Le Mans’ sports prototype, GT and touring car grids. With over 20 races and over 1000 entries, the racing action will be non-stop all weekend. The grids in previous years have included:

FIA Masters Historic Formula One
The Jet Super Touring Car Trophy
Pre '66 GT Cars
Group C
FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars
Stirling Moss Trophy For Pre '61 Sports Cars
HGPCA Pre '66 Grand Prix Cars
Under Two Litre Touring Cars
Historic Formula Junior
90s GT Legends

Friday Night Music
Still to be announced

Saturday Night Music
This year, British reggae and pop legends UB40 featuring Ali, Astro and Mickey, will top Saturday evening's live music line-up.

Cars
Around 10,000 cars from all sorts of car clubs makes this one of the world's largest displays of sports and super cars, along with many rarities. The calibre of cars on show is truly stunning!

Other Features

Anniversary parades
Aerial displays
Auctions (if you're feeling flush!)
Live demonstrations
Shopping village
Free fun fair
Food and drink stalls

MR2 Mk1 Club Car Display
In recent years, we've had as many as 33 cars on display on our stand and it's a great way to show off the marque. Whether you're new to the club, or a long-standing member, please come along to show off your pride and joy. It doesn't have to be in concourse condition, and everyone will be interested to see what Mk1 you bring.

More information including racing line-up etc.

Cheers,
Tom

Would love nothing more than this but all our funds are going into the build this year.

Absolutely cracking deal though. We’ll definitely be showing the car next year if it’s ready (which it should be!)

Just ordered my camping tickets tonight. I noticed already that some motorhome camping had sold out, so you might want to make sure you get your camping tickets!

This year the tickets are all electronic, so they are not being posted. Are our club tickets electronic too this year?

Lakelad
9th April 2018, 09:25 AM
The ones that are sold out are the very large electric pitches, of which there are very few (I think the are the ones that are on the right side of the road as you enter the site). The last two years the site has not been full and possible to buy tickets right up to the arrival day. Attendance at Classic is of course much lower than for F1 so campsite is not running at full capacity for Classic.

Hi Dan, yes, I was surprised to receive e-tickets when I bought our club ones.

What I haven't received in a digital format is all of the car passes etc. I am guessing that these might get sent out closer to the time as usual in printed format, but it's nice to already have the entrance tickets.

If it's alright with everyone, I'll distribute all tickets closer to the time as they have all come in one PDF, and I think it will be more secure if they're not distributed this early.

Cheers,
Tom

Hopefully the weather will a little less wet this year!

23rd May 2018, 08:06 AM
What with all this sunshine we've been having, doesn't it make you think about coming to the Silverstone Classic?? :D

It's less than a week to go to get the 2-for-1 offer on the tickets. After that, you will also not be guaranteed to be able to get your car on our club stand!

PM me or post up on here if you have any questions.

Cheers! :D

Hi Graham, What sort of time are you planning to get to Watford Gap? We haven't decided on on a leaving time yet but were hoping to arrive as early as poss to try to bag some spaces for everyone together.

Hi Bill I was aiming to leave about 09.00 and to W Gap is three hours ten minutes so 1.00 sounds good and that should put on site for about 2pm - how does that sound to you?

Have you got a club banner for the campsite?

I'll not be there until around 7pm probably; will try and be earlier if I can.

I've got the setup passes and wrist bands for your car (Bill) and mine, so that we can get the gazebo setup. That is unless you fancy trying to blag your way in earlier on in the day? :)

2 more sleeps! :D

If you're at Watford gap at 1pm, you'll be there just a fraction before us.

The old man like his peace and quiet out the way  see if I can sort him out.

Look forwards to seeing familiar faces tomorrow :D I'm thinking there can't be much more than 4 of us camping

Yeh, looking forward to it!

Lois is coming down via train on Friday, as that's when school is out for summer. That means I'll be nipping out the Milton Keynes on Friday evening, so can get anything anyone has forgotten/needs from the supermarket. :+:

Well, Silverstone classic was amazing. I want to thank Tom our club owner for arranging all of it and doing a great job to boot. Please, anyone here think about coming along next year, it's great to drive into Europe's biggest car show, in your Japanese classic. If anything just to piss of the club next door, which I ended up doing!

The old man couldn't hack the camping another night, he was knackered out from the uncharacteristic summer sun. Next year will be different!

So while finishing the leftover cider on this lovely evening, I went through this weekends photos. Here is a few, with more to come when I get chance.

Here's the old man, smiling of all things :)

Once again thanks to our Chairman for sorting the whole thing out. Look forward to it next year!

More images to come, ones of our club stand when I get to it. Anyone thinking about coming, just do it!

One of my favourites, freshness for the eyes. Car shows don't have to be serious. I'm glad this club doesn't take ourselves too seriously :)
