EVENT DETAILS;

Introduction
The list below details our proposed events in the south east region. There will most likely be additional events that we will be arranging as we go through the year. On the other hand if there is no response to a listed event then that event may be cancelled due to a lack of interest. So it is recommended that if you intend coming to an event please let us know either by email or preferably by posting on the club web site forum.

Some of the events require an individual application to be made together with a donation. This is for the show’s insurance purposes. We can supply you with a PDF copy of the application forms or you can obtain them direct from the show’s web sites. Please be aware that these show’s are very popular and are often full before the show date so don’t leave it until the last moment to send those forms off.

27th & 28th March (Easter Weekend Sunday and/or Monday)
Festival of Steam and Transport Chatham Dockyard (£5 donation)
Individual application required
Only Mk1 MR2’s are eligible for this event as the cars need to be 25 years or older to enter. (although early model MK2’s can now enter but they are very rare). This is not an event for petrol heads. The display of cars is only a minor part of the transport festival. We have been to this show many times and can report a fantastic day out exploring the historic dockyard at Chatham. Apart from the indoor museum of marine vessels you can board the different war ships and submarine. If you wish to join us at this event you must obtain an application form either from Alan Cayzer or direct from the dockyard as although clubs are welcome you must apply to register your vehicle and make a donation of £5 on an individual basis. In the morning we will be meeting in the large car park adjacent to the entrance and go in together so we can be placed next to each other.
Contact at the Dockyard is Alana Marie Almond. Tel: 01634 823816.

17th April Sunday.MR2 Kent Run (£0)
Organized and led by Pete Mason, you will be following a long line of MR2’s driving through the Kent Weald and Romney Marshes with a stop for lunch at the Pilot Inn in Dungeness, plus a few mini stops along the way. It is a fun and exciting experience and a great adrenaline rush. The event is open to all MR2 clubs and owners so we are anticipating many cars taking part.

The run starts at the Eureka Leisure Park in Ashford adjacent Junction 9 of the M20. Post Code is TN25 4BN. We will be meeting in the car park between Burger King and the Travelodge. The run will commence at 11.30am but please be there at least an hour earlier so we can hand out directions and answer any queries. The total distance of the run is approx 65 miles and it will finish by 4.00pm near enough where it started in Ashford so easy access to the M20 for your journey home.

It is an action packed and very exciting day watching the cars sprinting through the park, wandering around the paddock and the car show. Unfortunately the club stands are limited to 5 cars each day. If all places on the club stand are full you can still come and join us (last year they permitted additional cars on the stand but if not you can leave your vehicle in the on-site car park and pay the £12 pp admittance fee. A quick question about the Kent run. Do you generally keep within speed limits? I'm not a fast driver by any means so would I be holding people up/lagging behind?

I went on last years run and although speed limits were generally adhered to the driving was spirited to say the least. There are regular stops to allow the convoy to reform due to cars taking wrong turnings or getting held up behind Sunday drivers.

Some go pretty quick others go at a slower pace so we end up in little groups along the road. There is usually someone to follow. Go as fast or slow as you like, if you are a slow driver you'll eventually catch up with everyone. That's why we have so many quick stops.

Myles,
Perhaps you should try the Epsom to Eastbourne Run on 26th June. It is more controlled and goes at a slower pace as the roads are different to those on the Kent run. Most of the roads on the run to Eastbourne have 40mph speed limits

Hi Alan

We are planning on attending the dockyard, Kent run, Eastbourne run, and Herne bay show so far. Our cheque has been cashed for dockyard, but no paperwork received from them, so am assuming we are in at the moment!

Hi Alex,
Great to hear you're planning to come to all these events. I hear the info and passes for the dockyard have only just started to be sent out so you should be receiving something in the post soon. I believe others are thinking they would like to go on the Sunday, but if the weather is poor that day then it would be Monday they go. How does that fit in with your plans? I also hear there are at least 5 Mk1's including you going to the dockyard so should be good fun!

Hi Alan

We're able to do both, or either day at dockyard as only 5 mins away. Glad to hear there'll be a few of us, it's the Mk1's first club outing for about 8 years!

If I get my brakes and tyres sorted I may feel more confident doing Kent run, at the moment I can't stop or take corners fast at all! I know you suggested waiting until the Eastbourne run, but I'm an impatient bugger and want to get out and meet some fellow AW11 owners!
