Hi,

I have previously been a member about 5/6years ago when I last had a MK1....I am now looking to get another one and re-kindle the magic! I have joined the club again to hopefully try and find a well looked after MK1 for a good and fair price.

If anyone can help that would be great...I'm in the Cheshire area and I will be attending Tatton park show but as it stands just as a paying spectator!! Hopefully that will change!!

Thanks

Jay

Hi Jay where abouts in the county are you? I'm near Chester. I've got a silver mk1b sunroof. Both rear arches have been welded. Loads of history. I've got loads of spares. New bushes to go on and I've recently put Pirelli p slot wheels on it with new tyres (still got the original tear drops). It's a d reg with 130,000. Interior is mint including new floor mats from T&N. Lives in the garage. Insurance have valued it at over £3k. I might be moving house to somewhere with no garage.

Hi Paul M, looks great! Sounds like it has been well looked after...has it a live MOT etc? I will have too think about £3k though....set myself a budget of no more than £2k-£2.5k....any pic of the inside at all? I'm in Warrington also so not far....Thanks for getting in touch, Jay

Hi Jay. I will get some interior pics for you. Yes. Live MoT. It is due in March and I'll be putting it back through. I've ran it through winter but knly used a handful of times and not when cold, grit and avoided rain.

Jay, I've been having a think and I can't sell it! Sorry. At least not for less than 3k. I believe these cars are going to appreciate more in the next few years and I'd be stupid to sell it.

Jay, mine will be for sale in July if you can wait that long.

You've a good budget, if you're patient and find a realistic seller you should find yourself a pretty great example at that price.

Cliff car looks great in the pictures and is a pretty rare beast now being an unmodified MK1a. Some people dont like the black bumpered MK1a as much but i love them. They are likely to appreciate the most too in my opinion. There are very few MK1a cars left on the road by all accounts.

Just make sure you get rid of the horrible white paint on the wheels and paint them original silver again ;-)

The b is vastly superior than the a, the only thing you get is exclusivity, but the b is a rare car anyway.

You wrong there mate the true A will kick the B ass and would have an A over a B any time .

Doesn't the A have weak brakes?

cchrysos
18th February 2016, 05:40 PM
A is a much better car in my opinion. the brakes are not noticeably different. Both cars are worthy of brake upgrades anyway.
The other minor differences are very easy upgrades IF you want them.

Exclusivity is nice to have too :-)

I think the mk1 in any guise offers exclusivity. But I agree, the brakes are reasonably poor.

I once went for a drive with someone in a 1A, I was in front and stopped at traffic lights. My car stops very well. The 1A was skidding along the road behind me. Was funny :D

Hi Jay. Not sure if you are still looking but my 1899 MR2b will be available in a few weeks. Check out the photos on my profile. In white no rust 89k miles with full history and reams of invoices. Might be slightly out of your budget range but worth a look. Don't want to sell but job is taking me to New Zealand. Will come with new MOT.
