Hi guys anyone know the car above?

I am interested in buying it.
Just seems too good to be true at that price especially.

Any input I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

It does look as if it's seen a fair bit of love and attention. It's pretty local to me. Follow the very good buyers guide on YouTube and I don't think you'd stray far wrong.
But I agree it is a very reasonable price for what it appears to be.

MOT history isnt too bad for a MK1. Certainly doesnt indicate its full of galloping rot or filler, but does show where some welding should have been done that you can check:

Looks great. It's the best colour too! The spoiler-mounted brake light is a great extra. Looks like the seats have been re-covered at some point as that leather looks to be in great condition.

Looks great for the price and you'd have some spare cash to do anything you think needs.

Hi all,

The car does look good, it's been advertised for a while now (originally on Gumtree as I contacted the guy back in September, I didn't view though). I'm surprised it hasn't sold but definitely worth checking out I reckon!

Thanks guys and thanks for the mot check. I appreciate it.

Well it was either a mk1 and dare I say it on here a mk2.

Its just I'm not the most mechanically minded and I've been burnt before on what looked like a mint mk1 but due to my lack of knowledge it was rotten underneath just covered up.

Thanks I think I'll go check it out.

And the 1300 doesn't look too rigid.
Fingers crossed for you. Mine was a bit of a comb over when it came to rot
Well hidden

It might be a good idea to take someone who knows what to look out for with you, given what you have said. Photos can be very deceiving and what may look good, may turn out to be a money pit underneath, and a lot can be hidden beneath the skirts, arch liners, carpet and underseal. It may be sound mechanically but these things do like to rot, and you may be burnt again.

I hope it turns out to be a good one, but be cautious.

Things that seem too good to be true in regards to cars usually are in my experience, though sometimes you get nicely surprised. Follow the advice that's been given above and have a good root around and good luck.

Thanks guys I'll try and get some body specialist to go down with me. I think that's the best bet.

He has however offered to deliver the car for cost of petrol and assures me the car is ok especially with being waxoyled, or could that be hiding stuff underneath do you guys reckon?

Yeah it would be great to have some Yorkshire meets we do have some good roads up here.

I would be cautious about why the paint is flaking off, if the flaking paint was done at the same time as other paint on the car then other areas might also not be keyed very well. Aside from that then i think its a very good looking car and will be nice to have another Yorkshire member.

It's fine if it needs a bit of tlc
As it would cost double if it was a mint mint one. Depends on what sort of thing you want to take on.

To be honest I want a little hobby and maybe learn a bit more about cars and it this price I know its not gonna be a hundred percent perfect but I want it to at least be a good base/foundation to build on but I'm no mk1 dal if it turned out it needed serious welding or bodywork etc.

It does look in very good condition, but why has it been left without nice interior mats? It makes the interior look filthy and not much effort has gone into cleaning the inside imo as it looks dusty.

Maybe it's the light, but the bit at the bottom between the door sill plastic and bottom of the door card looks to be the wrong colour too. I've had this area go on mine.

The passenger side front wing must have been changed or the white stickers replaced at some point, as they have been put on wrong. They are meant to line up with the bumper sticker, like the other side does.

Thanks for all your help and advice guys, alas it's been sold so I guess the search continues or I might end up on the dark side again with a mk2 that is lol.

It will have sold at that price very cheap . The car looked quite clean for 28 years old and it has had a respray on most of the car ( wrong strips fitted to most of it bar the front passenger wing ) .It had extensive work done to get it through its last 5 mot so the way i think if it was really rotten and a shed it would have been scrapped years ago . The only thing i could see in the pics what would need doing straight away would be a new battery has its the wrong one fitted . What do you want a mr2 for a daily or a toy and do you have a garage .

placebo
5th January 2016, 03:43 PM
Oh well I guess I should be more courageous and take the plunge next time rather than over-thinking it

It would be a second car and yes do have a garage albeit not a heated one.

Perfect set up then for a mk1 t bar . If you want one in mica blue and for low money you will have to be prepared to travel for it i think and be quick when you see it . If you find one local to me i will go with you to look at it .

I actually remember you having one a couple of years back but Gilles beat me to it then.

I think Ideally it would be
Mica-Blue
Red
and then Helios
in that order.

or the holy grail that is gun metal grey.

Sorry, my first post this but happy to find this thread as I am the person who bought this MR2. Wanted one for 15 years.

It is was a actually a complete bargain, needs a few bits to make it ace but fantastic for the money.
