Hi all,

It was nice to meet some of you today, albeit for 1 hour under the hood of my car!!!

I ended up taking it to Paul Simms in Crewe, who's pretty sure its a gasket failure. We performed a compression test , and two the middle cylinders a are very low.

Which leads some questions!!

1) Has anyone used K-Seal (or similar product) to fix, or should I steer clear of this fix?

2) anybody recommend someone or able to help with replacing the seal? unfortunately I am short(ish) on cash as i go to Spain to get married in 2 weeks! I am lloking to get this sorted how ever, as to enjoy the summer with the car. How much do you think is a reasonable sum to pay for the a gasket replacement and cam belt change?

Thanks again everyone, if anyone fancies to chat about the above my number is 07748985243.

In my opinion K-seal is a bodge to get you back home, it's no true solution to the problem, if you're keeping the car get it fixed properly, if you're getting rid & your concious allows you to shaft somebody then by all means use it.

I'm looking forward to seeing photos and a write up of this trip from the la's, but what rotten luck for you Scott.

As Alan says, best to get a proper fix, otherwise it'll come back to haunt you.

That's rotten luck Scott ,i did think head gasket but with it having 20 mm of oil in the plugs wells i was hoping it was damage plugs . good luck with the fix and hope to see you again on another run mate

definitely looking at replacing gasket, probably water pump and other things while im at it.

Thanks to the guys that got their hands dirty today, i appreciate it greatly. And thanks to Kev for some tips and the offer of help on this project! any other advise welcome, or recommendations on someone that could help me with the fix.

Well it was another brilliant day out and thanks to all who turned out .It was a mixed bag of driving roads today and most were clear so we could open up a bit but if seamed every push biker in the country descend on peak district today and did hinder some what are progress but never mind . i think we did around 110 miles today which i think was enough with it being such a hot day . The mx5 club set of at the same time as us from Tesco WITH 30 CARS in there run ,good luck with keeping all them together .

Thanks again for the great day and run out. Good to stretch the cars legs, some 400 miles covered today.

The only picture I took was early in the morning with Gary working his magic.
Scott, there is no harm in throwing another set of spark plugs at the car and hope that cures the problem.

A great day out - despite the huge number of cyclists Gary did find some empty roads and some amazing scenery as well. Great to see everybody. Many thanks for a fantastic day.

Unlucky for Scott Gary plugs did'nt work nor leads , he came to me in Biddulph from Macc on the way back but unfortunately it looks like its the dreaded head gasket as very low compression on number 2 and 3
Tried numerous things but to no avail he managed to Limp Home Tho Luckily

Cycling is getting really popular, especially where I live. I think it's because the Tour De France is coming to my bit of Yorkshire.

Looks like a great run and I would have loved to have joined you rather than driving my daughter to Stansted in the sun!

Scott - breaking down on your first run is a right of passage that I had to endure a couple of years ago. It helps you bond with the other members. I reckon Bill sabotages newbies cars! Hope you get it sorted soon.

Mega time had by both me and Mr Nattie (love the name Kris :) ), the jury is still out on the North Pennines run, just watched some old footage and now I'm afraid, very afraid. If I think I might be able to keep up following a further months stint behind the wheel (and assuming there's still room) I'll happily join you.

Nattie - get your name down for the North Pennines - there are some great roads and though we have some fun we try and stay safe, try and keep together and always welcome all members! It is a great day out.
