Hello MR2 Mk1 Club! It's been a very long time :)

As many of you will know I (Dafydd) and my small company Superb Classics and Sport Ltd (www.superbclassics.co.uk) no longer sell MR2 Mk1's and now only sell new parts including decals for this model.

I am not selling this car, it does not belong to me or Superb Classics and Sports Ltd (www.superbclassics.co.uk).

Hi

Is the car still for sale?

It's sold. I was meant to get it on Saturday, had flights booked but someone turned up today and bought it.. That's twice now I've missed out on this car..

What a shitter kekkers. The same happened to someone else on here recently and while its the vendors right to sell to whoever they want, its not very gentlemanly to (i am presuming) agree a deal to the point the buyer has paid for a flight only to then sell it to someone else.

Domster
30th July 2013, 08:42 PM
It was me that bought it but it looks better in the pics than in real life. I think it has deteriorated since the original pics were taken. The doors have some filler work and rust scabs at the bottom and there are several small rust bubbles here and there. Overall I think for the money it is worth it as it was going cheap. It does look great. But I am after a concours low mileage one so ... as soon as I find one it will be back on sale. I have a 23K mile MK1 GTi and want a similar MR2. If you see an amazing red one for sale please let me know.

Domster

PS You can have it for the same price if you want it ... just as soon as I find the right one.

I've got a mint example that I may let go if the money was right. it's on youtube if you search Toyota mr2 mk1b t-bar restoration.

Thanks Clarky yours sure looks fine but I really want an immaculate FSH unrestored one with 50K miles or less. One will turn up. Eventually. Doesn't have to be a T Bar.

Something about this advert strikes me as very wrong. The pictures are of the car when it was sold a couple of years ago, we are told by the buyer it is now in much poorer condition. Did you buy the car from the widow Gwen and if you did who told kekkers that he could have it prompting him to book his flights from bonny Scotland?

I don't know how much you paid for the car but it was advertised at £2595 which is the sort of price you would expect to pay for a car with no obvious signs of rust. I have recently been on the receiving end of someone giving back word and it is not very pleasant, however I had not had to book flights. It does seem wrong though using old photos to sell a car especially if the person buying has to travel a long way to find out that the car is not as described. I was also a bit surprised when the rider of no questions should be asked of the seller was added to the advert, it appears that questions needed to be asked, even a non mechanical person would know what rust looks like :o

I wouldn't want to buy it for the same price if it's in worse condition than listed.

I spoke to Gwen on the Sunday, I take it domster spoke to her afterwards.. Quite happy I missed out now if its not in all that great condition.. Saved me a long drive back home also... I've been looking for ages now for the right one to come along. Red t-bar with leather.. I missed out on that car the first time around when Alan bought it also.. If anyone has what im looking for then let us know.. Domster, still keep me in mind when your re-selling tho. Cheers..

Sounds like it did you a favour mate - there is nothing worse than travelling a long way to end up disappointed! You should always have a look at the car, never trust someone else (unless you know them).

I had a brand new one as a kid and am mega fussy. Rust scabs give me sleepless nights. From 10 feet away it looks mint and would look the same if you took new pics today. What I mean is pics make it look a bit better than it is. I'm after a "like new" one and this one isn't. But then it was only £2500. It drives amazing and is like a small version of my 348. I will be waxoyling it so will see what else I find. Might just be the doors. Have also bought orginal seats for it, T-Bar blinds, new side seals.

Domster
31st July 2013, 09:28 AM
Hey I'll post it here first Kekkers. Shame the original owners didn't renew the Waxoyl. Am guessing they did it once and thought it wouldn't need doing again. I'll take a load of high resolution pics so you can see the things that bug me. Overall it is a great car. But I want a 10/10 :)

superwhite90
31st July 2013, 09:28 AM
I'd even go as far as saying it was over priced.

My mate converted his mk1a n/a to SC, one of only 3-4 conversions done in the country and his was pretty immaculate, a few scuffs here and there, but no rust and sold it for £2500

But then that was about 3 years ago, so could have sold it for £3000 now possibly.

Gives me a good indication though as next year I may be selling mine, with brand new rear arches, fully rebuilt and heavily modified engine :)

I'd happily pay £10K for a 10K mile one :)

Are you after a minter to keep in your garage and not to use on rainy days?

I bought my immaculate mk1b 6 years ago with 64k FSH and 2 owners before me for £1700

For £2500 i'd except no scabs - waxoyl doesn't remove the scabbing i'm afraid.

Yep pretty much. 2K miles a year max. Prices are definitely on the up and rightly so. Your white one sounds great. White looks fab at night doesn't it but I already have a white classic. Driving this car home was an eye opener - I'd forgotten how amazing they are to drive. How many miles have you done in 6 years? Have you kept her mint?
All the scabs on the door are now gone and it is now Dinitrol'd to the max ... I've sculptured the filler so that it looks like a door and not window putty :)

I will be doing 2k miles a year, but due to having another car and not being able to justify £80 a week in fuel as mine I imagine will only be doing 25mpg -

I don't believe in people paying silly money for cars if they aren't going to be driven properly. Its unbecoming of an mr2 fan in my opinion as these cars were made to be driven hard to the redline round corners - not sitting in someone's garage never been used.

I've covered 131k in 6 years, been through 3 engines, 2 gearboxes, 4 clutches and some bodywork - wouldn't get that same experience sitting in a garage, knocking one out over how good the car looks.

Well I already ragged 2 to death when I was younger and moved on to much faster stuff so it only feels nippy to me anyway :) There is nowhere to drive it properly here as I live on the side of a mountain with unnamed roads. It will get used once a fortnight :) Anyways I am back from having it inspected and except for the door sills it is the best one they have ever seen, so a great buy afterall. :) :) :)

You sound about 13 there. Maybe take some advanced driving lessons so that you don't wreck them? Or get something that can cope with how fast you want to go? I never got more than 135 out of the MR2 which is kind of lame by modern standards.

The 'bullet proof' 4AGE engine doesn't exist - having a corroded block with an engine bought from a reputable firm and an oil blockage is nothing to do with my driving habits.

I am however finishing off an engine which can cope with the rigors I put it through.

Nowhere to drive it properly, as you live on the side of a mountain - sounds like a good place to be!

Okay I'll be 100% honest and say that sadly all the expensive stuff is now gone. I wish I had kept the 964 as it was 100% perfect. Kids used to throw stones at the Fez. The Exige disintegrated :) I'm getting older and I just couldn't justify (afford) the outlay anymore. Truth is I like the MR2 as much as any of the older stuff. Just got the MR2, the Golf and the Cooper at the mo'. Fancy a Triumph GT6 :)

Right I'm off to look up the Fiat Uno Turbo and ... triggered by that ... the Renault 5 GT Turbo :)

Loving the G60! I'll post some more pics of past pleasures. I've currently got a golf MK1 in much better condition than that G60. Not as desirable tho' obv. 23K miles :) I drive faster in reverse these days so don't need the extra power. Anyways if I want to die there is always the quad track. I nearly lost the 348 at 180mph and the seats were brown afterwards :) If any of you are ever passing North Wales call in for some cuts and bruises on the track ... no health and safety here :) :) :)

Take the surround off fit the stereo, use the original brackets not the cage that comes with the stereo, then refit the surround
