Seems to be good value. Just ordered it and will be fitting before the weekend. Should work but i'll report if it doesn't.

I'm not trying to piss on your parade but only the very early 1a's (84/85) had 60A alternators. Everything else had 70A alternators, it should work OK just a bit under-rated.
That shouldn't be a problem in the summer, but may well struggle to keep the battery fully charged in the winter especially during long periods of high electrical loads (lights, heater etc )

I am probably being stupid Jimi but how do you know it is 60A rather than 70A?

Thank goodness for that, I read the listing through numerous times and could not find any reference to the 60A :-)

I should have mentioned that I checked the part number, I've updated my post with the EPC numbers

I've spent a year and half restoring my MR2......it's not seeing Winter ever again!

:)

Shame I've spent £70 on an under-rated alternator....still, has to be better than mine that doesn't really work at all.

There's every chance you'll never notice the difference

It would be fine for my car, I have only ever used the lights once I think since I have had it :-)

So what's the difference between the 60A and the 70A alternator? The new one has turned up and you are annoyingly right about it being the 60A variant. It spins nice and freely though compared to the old unit which got me thinking. Are there any internal parts I can swap over to get it to 70A?

So i nearly broke down today because of my silly mistake with the alternator earlier in the year. I noticed that when i put main beam on a few weeks ago the engine electrical warning light flashed on and off quickly. Today, presumable because of the temperature going down to about 10'C, the engine cut out completely. Luckily i was on a back road near home. I started it back up and got home luckily. Just looking on ebay for a replacement and ahve found this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-Remanufactured-Alternator-70A-Genuine-OE-Quality-Re-Charge-Replacement-/190804446623?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AMR+2%7CPlat_Gen%3AMK+I&hash=item2c6cd4cd9f

Will it work? It's 70A so i'm assuming so?

I need a new alternator but £120 is the cheapest i've found :(

Where have you found that? Seems like a very good price compared to some I have seen!

Would this work?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALTERNATOR-TOYOTA-CARINA-2-MK2-COROLLA-1-6-4X4-70A-LRA550-/200877475540?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2ec53b06d4

Or...is it possible to change the case of the old alternator with the internals of another Toyota 70A alternator?

Just trying to save money hehe!

Looks like it might work but I cannot remember if the mk1 has round or oval plug on the loom

jimi

Ive just checked my old alternator and the mounting is orientated differently. Shame.
