Hello Elliott, welcome to the forum, youve picked a great run to start with, there are some stunning roads and scenery on the lakes run. Which reminds me... my car probably wont be back on the road for this, I need to sort the suspension out still... Ive got all the bits but too skint to fork out for the garage labour, so if anyone has an empty passenger seat I will gladly fill it :-)

coverco
17th January 2013, 07:39 PM
Is your car drivable Kris, if so bring it over here and we will try and get a mini meet suspension fixing thingy sorted. My rates are very reasonable possibly a pint would suffice :p

And welcome along Elliott, I have not done the Lakes run but they say it is a great day out.

Yes mate its still driving, well it was in october anyway, just verrry bouncy. Ill ring you at weekend to summarise what ive got.

17th January 2013, 10:14 PM
Kris if you really stuck you can come in my car if I go. If you can get your scouse arse over to mine i've got spare mk1a rear and front suspension you can put on until yours are done.If you want to borrow mine it also gives you time to clean and paint your suspension up.

Cheers all. Dave, I should be at mcvities stockport soon so will let you know when I am and pop round for a chat. Ive got spanking new polybushes, kyb inserts and kyb springs so maybe a cleverer way could be to strip and refurb your parts and then drop the new parts into them in advance to make it a bit more straightforward when it comes to removing the tired ones as could then in principle "just" replace with the refurbed ones there and then. I do like the idea of a minimeet round tommys, it would be good fun. To be honest we should have a cross pennines catch up anyway even if it just involved cider and pie. As you know the springs and struts aren't the big problem, its doing the polybushes that is the biggest pain in the ass & thats why I was thinking paying someone was the way forward, problem is I was being quoted more than I paid for the car in some cases and I have a mountain of debt I dont really want to add to, so with the car being a luxury hidden away in a lock up I keep putting it off. Its great to have you lot offering to help out, I just hope one day ill have skills and facilities to do the same in return, but for now all I can offer is 3kg of ginger nuts :-D thanks all B-)

Were you thinking of powder coating any of your suspension? or painting any of it? Im sure we can work something out the front shocks ive got are good units but I have a plan. Are you putting on new springs as well?
When you come round you can see my new toy cannot wait until the morning playing in the snow

Hi Kris
Just cottoned on to your predicament. I suspect that Tommy is better kitted up at his place for a suspension swap than I am, but I'll gladly bring what tools I have and pitch in. If you do need garage space to do it, mine's available.
Whatever, post the plan up.

coverco
18th January 2013, 07:04 AM
If Dave has a spare set of 1a suspension then borrow it Kris. The hard part is getting the bushes out, I have access to a 50tonne press which does the job. Once the bushes are out it is fairly easy to get the new ones in. I have a spare set but they are 1b unfortunately. A mini meet would be fun though, we could even do it at work if we need more room.

No plan to powdercoat, I figure a clean up & a quick blowover would be sufficient, basically cos i dont want a concourse car, as I would never want to use it!

Yes, I have new springs shocks & bushes to go in

We've taken this thread completely off topic so I will PM you all with whats what after ive spoken to tommy & dave this weekend

Moderators! Moderators! Tommy's trading again!! ;)

Please put me down for this run. Kris I will probably have a spare seat if you need it. I'll keep an eye on this thread and I'll certainly pop round to Tommy's if there is a meeting there. My skills include holding spanners and making tea.

Oh no caught out again, I shall go and slap my wrists :p

Kris maybe we should start a new thread about your suspension refurb otherwise we will get told off by the moderators, actually I think Tom does the moderation so if we buy him a beer he might turn a blind eye.... ah corruption is such fun :D

Note to self... read Kris's posts, sorry mate.

hi all , last few places left for this great day out ,so get your names down and blow the winter cob webs out .please make sure your cars up for the run eg good brakes and tyres , this run is not a race but due to the nature of the roads its a must we don't want any accidents .if anyone breaks down don't leave the group we have parts , tools and experience to fix most faults if any occur on the runs ( bill has a boot full of tools and i carry belts, alternators ,dizzy and caps, leads and basic parts that can cause problems ) these are very organised runs and after attending them for 4 years they get better and better every year and are a credit to the hard work put in by the organisers .only 4 weeks to go for all the mk1 events to kick off and i cant wait , roll on summer.:+:

If there are any places left can I put my name down please?

Couple of questions.

Meeting in the North or South bound services? I assume North but don't want to start pointing in the wrong direction.

I also have a rather limited range, 150 miles normally, less when pushing it, is there a fuel stop on route or should I bring a few cans?

Hi Michael

Northbound

Wow, 150 miles is a short range! We make regular stops throughout the day & stop a few times for fuel on the runs. I cant envisage this one being any different... but for piece of mind I'd bring a can with me if I was getting that sort of mpg.

Look forward to seeing you there

....

Wow, 150 miles is a short range!

For whatever reason I can only fit 35l in the tank; it reads full, I have run it until the fuel light and you can hear the pump sucking air, coughing, spluttering etc.
I think it may have a slightly smaller tank than standard. Still makes playing petrol station roulette more interesting.

PM Sent for yo Bill, let me know if you don't receive it.

I get this with my Mk1.5 too. I'd just assumed it was something to do with the Walbro pump and how it sits in the tank. I would kill for more range! :)

PS: You'll be fine on any of the club runs. There are plenty of petrol stops.
