Hi and welcome! It was cabbydave and then rickmcrick who owned the car prior to tommo, so its well known to the club. If you do a search on some of last years runs it features in plenty of pics :-D where are you based?

What do you want to know about it? i owned it for about 2 years before I sold it to Rick. I've got a few photo's of it having the arches done if you want them. I bought it off aa asian in Bradford who had only owned it about a week but before he had it it was owned by a old couple in north Manchester. They got ripped off a lot by various garages who eventually told them the car was scrap because one of the rear subframes was corroded , yeah right £15 on ebay. While I owned it apart from servicing it ha d a new exhaust and a clutch,I also changed the interior from blue to black infact i've still got the black headlining for it if you want it http://www.mr2mk1club.com/images/imported/2012/07/th_mr2atscrippsgaragecropped-1.jpg (http://s66.photobucket.com/albums/h258/thunderdave/mk1%20mr2/?action=view&current=mr2atscrippsgaragecropped.jpg)
Any questions just ask I think I know a bit about that car. A picture of it outside Mr Scripps Garage

It looks good in the photo outside Mr Scripps. the car is in good condition for its age but like every car i buy it just needs a few niggles sorting. Didi you ever have problems with overfueling? I'm getting a very strong petrol smell everytime i accelerate.

the interior is deffinatly better in black, but i think i'll leave the headlining thanks it looks an absolute nightmare to change.

There is a fuel breather filter in the engine bay that is often the cause of petrol smells in the cabin. You can either replace it or reroute the breather pipe. Try a search for petrol smell and you should get some more info :-)

Thank you very much. I'll have to have a look this weekend realy hope its something simple. Another question:p where can i get the bearings and bushes for my alternator? Its a little noisey.

I would take your alternator to a reconditioner, around us they normally charge about £60-£70 and they do all the hard work :-)

Its not hard to change the headlining, if you come over to Stockport bring it to mine and I will help you do it. Check the fuel filler pipe hasn't got a hole in it or the filter in the engine bay with the pipe that runs down the chassis leg isn't blocked. If your filler neck has rusted through I do have one i've just removed from the one that I am sending to the scapyard in the sky as the chassis leg is to rotten. I have removed every good panel or part panel on it so it will keep a few more on the road. I did discover why the chassis leg had rusted out it was because of a accident the car must have suffered at some point in its life that obviously hadn't bee repaired to withstand the British weather.

Wow, looks like I'm a bit late to this party.

I had the car between Dave and Tom and had a great time in it!

Re: The fuel smell. When I had it there was a hole in the fuel filler pipe. Gary (Mk1Dal) gave me a new pipe which I never got round to fitting *blush*, but did pass on to Tom with the car. I don't know if Tom got round to fitting it or not, but it might be worth checking (before you try and put any petrol in it).

Great to see the car is staying with the forum!

Where abouts are you based? There is lots going on the north west if you fancy a bit of socialising.

I dont think tom got around to doing it, as i filled the car up today and as i pulled away i noticed a big puddle of petrol on the floor:(:( I only took a second look because of what dave said earlier in the thread about the fuel pipe. At least i know what the problem is now.

Rick did the car have a metaly sound around 3500rpm to 4000rpm (sorry for the bad description its just hard to describe) when you had it??? any idea what it is anybody???

Dave if the offer still stands about the fuel pipe looks like i might have to take you up on it. How much do you want for it?

cabbydave
4th October 2012, 08:14 PM
The rattle could be heat shields rattling. As for the filler neck yes the offer still stands I can give you a lift fitting it as well if you want to make the trip to mine a whole 30 miles away. As for the price I could probably supply and fit for errrrrrrmmm beer tokens I'm English not Welsh you know boyoh lol:o

LOL, looks like I was later than I thought.

I don't recall any strange rattles, but it's been over a year since I drove it, and I'm not the most mechanically minded (and not very good at reading threads on the internet :)).

As a temp fix you can pick up some fuel tank clay/putty stuff. I used it while I had the car but unfortunately it fell off during the months it was laid up outside my place. As an even more temp fix I stuck some tape round it LOL.

Beer tokens. I like the sound of that!!! Your a true english gent lol. 30 miles isn't to far, i'm sure i can find some decent roads on the way to stockport. so when are you available good sir?? I thought the rattling could be heat sheilds rattling about but havn't had time to look yet i'm a bust boy lol

What tape do you reccomend i use Rick gaffa tape or abit of masking tape lol. how come the car was outside your house foer a few months?? i can't believe you got bord of it???

Rick McRick
5th October 2012, 11:32 AM
I used insulation and duck, neither worked for more than a couple of fill ups though LOL

Oh no, I never got board of it, it was an great little car. I joined in all the club drives with it, it was strong and well planet, never missed a beat up until it developed a mysterious fault. The guys in the club where amazing though. Cabby came over and looked at it for me, Paul Woods was on the other end of the phone and on the forum supplying great advice and parts, and Bill was at my door a few times spanners and spare parts in hand! It turned out to be a problem with the ECU.

You can read all about it here

http://www.mr2mk1club.com/showthread.php?10842-Car-starts-but-then-cuts-out

And then Bill got it running again here

http://www.mr2mk1club.com/showthread.php?13856-Massive-massive-thanks-to-Bill-Hulme-for-getting-my-Mk1-going-today

Unfortunately due to the bad weather (and maybe my lazyness) it took a long time to get to the bottom of it.

In the mean time I got my self a big fat Mk2 and once the Mk1 was going again I sold it on to Tom. If you've not seen his project thread already it here...

I'm up manchester tomorrow picking up some alloys but i'll be in the family car no room for 5 alloys in the mk1:( plus could have the wife and kid with me:( apparently if i can spend money on my car, i can spend money on her shopping in manchester.

If its before 3 you can come round and get this filler neck and the black headlining if you want. I'm only just off the A34 near Handforth retail Park . Might even let you look at my 1.5. What wheels are you picking up?

If the wife doesnt come with me i'll pop over, but if she is no doubt i'll be dragged around manchester!! I'm buying some pepper pots off a member of the fourm. 5 alloys 2 of which have been refurbed a bargain. Ive always liked pepper pots.

This might sound like a silly question but i am a noobie 1.5???

A two litre turbo out of a mk2 slotted into a mk1. If your buying the wheels off Kev your going past mine near enough
