2008 was the 10th year the MR2 Mk1 Club has attended the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.

The club stand was setup on Thursday evening by club Chairman Stuart Kynoch, President Ken Salmon and a fantastic group of volunteers.

With Richard Brett's Mk1.6 (Mk1 with 3.0 V6 Camry engine conversion), Tony Froude's stunning Mica Blue Mk1b, a rare Black Mk1a and a Super Red Mk1b the stand was sure to attract a lot of attention over the next 3 days.

Doors opened to the public on Friday morning and it gave the MR2 Mk1 Club great pleasure to welcome "MR2 Only" publication as a guest on the stand for the weekend, doubtless the start of a budding partnership between the club and this unique magazine.

Friday proved to be the calm before the storm as far as crowds go, but the MR2 Mk1 Club did manage a major coo, using a previous relationship to attract Wheeler Dealers stars Mike Brewer and Edd China onto the club stand - which brought plenty of welcome attention and photo opportunities for the club.

An extremely busy Saturday was predicted and the Mk1 Club members manning the stand arrived early to walk around the rest of the exhibition before the doors opened to the on-rushing public - it certainly makes a difference walking round when the NEC is empty!

Sunday and Saturday proved to be extremely successful days for the club, with plenty of interest been shown in the 80's classic by the general public and a good quantity of new members being signed up on the spot - Welcome to the Club!

The club also took good advantage of the opportunity to pro-actively market and sell the new batch of club regalia that has been organised by the refreshingly enthusiastic Richard Brett.

Overall, once again the NEC Classic Motor Show was a roaring success for the MR2 Mk1 Club.

The MR2 Mk1 Club is already planning for NEC Classic Motor Show 2009 - it is looking to be bigger and better than ever! If you want to be involved, feel free to e-mail any of the committee.
