Sunday 5th March 2006 - Pub Meet at The Wharf
We met at a new venue, ‘The Wharf’ pub at Greenhithe, located just off J1 of
the M25 and within view of the QE2 Dartford Bridge and just a few miles from our
intended meeting place at Bluewater. We would guess that anyone traveling
southbound over the Bridge looking down on the south bank of the Thames would
see a lake and a large Hollywood type sign “CROSSWAYS”. Well that is where the
pub is.
Our original plans were to meet up with those from IMOC but as time neared we
realized they were not planning to meet that day. So, we decided to have a poll
decision (very democratic) on our email network offering a choice of either one
of our regular meeting places or this new venue that had been previously
recommended to us. The result was a majority decision to try the new venue.
The Wharf pub is located within a recently constructed business estate with
no residential housing nearby. We therefore predicted that its business would
mainly cater towards working days rather than a Sunday. Well no actually, it was
quite busy! However, it has a large car park that enabled us to park together.
Outside, at the rear the pub faces a lake and there is split level terracing
with seating and tables which would lovely to sit there on a warm summers day,
but today was a cold winters day so we quickly went inside to escape the cold.
Inside, the pub has spacious open areas on various split-levels, modern,
light and airy and despite being busy we had no problem finding a large table
for us to sit at. With a pleasant atmosphere and some very tasty chips topped
with cheese to consume we spent an enjoyable couple of hours talking MR2’s and
other things in general.
Before departing, the general opinion of everyone was that the Wharf was a
good place to meet with the cars so we’ll be planning another meet here again
later in the year. Perhaps next time the wives and girlfriends will want to come
where we can drop you off in Bluewater for a bit of retail therapy which we chat
all things MR2!!
Many thanks to all those who braved the cold to come.
Next pub meeting is at Hanrahans in Maidstone on 2nd April at Noon. See you
there!
Sunday 5th February 2006 - Pub Meet at "The Woodman" Ide Hill, Sevenoaks,
Kent.
After a long cold winter the south east members met up for the first time in
2006 at the Woodman at the begining of February. It was still cold but at least
the days are starting to get longer.
We were all looking forward to seeing Pete Masons white supercharger which
has just had its engine mods recently completed. Pete explained that the car was
currently producing 220bhp but still further mods were planned in the coming
months to achieve his target of 300bhp. The car sounded as good as it looked!
It was good to see so many of you come and meet us. We were particularly
pleased to see Ian Hobly from Beckenham and Nick Lawson from Orpington who we
fist met at our last pub meet, so it was good to see them return again. Ian
drives a very clean Mk1a in white over silver and Nick brought along his Mica
blue T bar that he has been working on over the winter which now proudly wears
17” alloys and a twin oval exhaust. Nick is into V8’s and has vast experience
building custom cars and vans some of which have won prizes so he is very
knowledgable with cars. His business involves chrome coating, anything metal,
plastics etc. in fact he is planning to coat the whole car in blue chrome to
promote the product so it should look stunning when completed. Surprise of the
day was when Andy Kent arrived. He had sold his Mk1 last year so we were not
expecting to see him again but Andy said he missed it so much he just had to get
another one and renew his membership.
