SOUTH WEST and SEVERN
AREA JOINT MEET - HAYNES MUSEUM, SUNDAY 17th JULY 2005
On Sunday July 17th the South West region
and the Severn Valley Region had a joint meeting at Haynes Motor museum. It was
agreed that we would meet up at 12pm for those wishing to go into the museum and
2pm for anyone else who fancied a bit of a run after the event.
You would think that living the closest that I would be the first one there,
but alas this was not to be and when we finally arrived we found that Jeff
(Severn Valley Organiser) Ashley and Ali, Martyn and Dawn had already got there
and were over in a quiet part of the car park. We had a bit of a chat for a
while and then decided to go and have a wander around the museum.
If you haven’t been to Haynes, it’s certainly worth a look. As mentioned
elsewhere on the club site, there is a red MK1 on display. Its condition isn’t
too bad, but we all agreed that every car that had made the journey up today was
in better nick. So maybe we should offer Haynes one of our cars over the winter
months!
Once we had finished in there we had a quick tea break, and waited to see if
any other members would turn up for the 2 o’clock section of the afternoon. We
were pleased to say Chris made the trip over from Taunton and Richard and Jackie
came down from Westbury, I think.
We had a bit of car chat again, and then made our way out on to the road to
see if we could find a pub that would do us something to eat. Three pubs later
we managed to find somewhere that served food after 2pm, so thanks very much to
the Half Moon at Mudford, the food was good and it was air-conditioned, which
was a real blessing with the soaring temperatures outside. Jeff then kept us
amused with some jokes and stories. Jeff, I think you missed your vocation; you
should have been on the stage!
At around 4.30 we all started to make our way out to our cars for the journey
home. I had 40 minutes to travel, but Martyn and Dawn had to head back to
Plymouth, somewhere around 2 ½ hours away.
Having had some feedback since, everyone seemed to think it was a good day
and I would like to thank everyone who came along and made it what it was. In
the future me and Jeff are hoping to work on some more joint events, so keep
your eyes open for them, and if anyone feels they have got an idea for one drop
us a line. There was some talk of meeting up at Christmas time, but we will have
to wait and see on that one.
If anyone fancies a pub meet one Sunday, get in touch and we can sort one
out. This time of year is a bit busy with other events, so these tend to get put
on hold a bit during the summer months.
Well I think that’s it for now, hope to see some of you around in the future.
All the best,
STEVE HALLETT
