Kent Coast Run - Sunday 17th August 2003
On 17/08/03, we organised a Kent Coast Run, we all met
in Ashford just off of the M20 at 12am with plans to go for a nice drive grab
a spot of lunch and proceed for another drive. Although Steve Kingsnorth
decided it was to cold for him and didn’t turn up which was most
disappointing as he is always at the heart of MK1 based meets.
It all started well there was a fantastic turn out of mainly MK1s
but a number of MK2s and a MK3 as well. So we all proceeded to drive down
towards the coast where we were planning on having lunch. After a few stops
for everyone to catch up, we finally reached our intended destination to
discover they had no parking. So we had a slight change in venue and proceeded
to the Pilot at Dungeness, where majority of us had something to eat and a few drinks.
The lunch stop gave us all a chance to have a chat and have a nose
around each other’s cars, and discuss what we’ve been doing to our MR2s.
After lunch we thought we would take some photos of all of our MR2s
together, so we headed slightly further down the road with the exception of
Alan Cayzer whose brother or so he say’s couldn’t keep up and kept getting
lost! We managed to get some fantastic shots of all of the cars lined up
together. See below a few of the cars we managed to photograph:
After our mini photo shoot we proceeded to go on the coast drive as previously arranged.
Our first stop was to find Alan Cayzer who still hadn’t
materialised and had started the coast run on his own. Once we had regained
the stragglers we proceeded to drive round the country roads. As there was
such a large convoy it was difficult in places to stay together, so we stopped
at the Little Chef in Brenzett to have a head count and check we hadn’t lost
anyone, surprisingly we hadn’t. This also gave us another opportunity to
have another check over each other’s cars.
Once everyone was ready we proceeded on our coast run out toward
Tenterden and back down through Woodchurch towards Warehorne. Once we reached
Warehorne we stopped at the Worlds Wonder, which unfortunately wasn’t open,
but it was a welcome break to have a chat. A couple of MK2s departed our
company at Warehorne in search of food, the rest of the convoy proceeded
towards Ashford.
Once in Ashford we stopped at the French Connection for a drink before
everyone headed off home on last chance to see who had been doing what to
their car recently. At about 5pm everyone started to head off apart from
Alan Cayzer who guess what, had again got lost and ended up on the motorway on
his way home, whilst the rest of us were enjoying a drink.
We had a fantastic time and we hope everyone who attended also had a
fantastic time, we hope to organise something similar for next year.
See below for a few more pics from throughout the day:
The first time we had to find Alan after he had gotten lost, we should have
guessed he’d be by an ice cream van!
Everyone having a chat when we stopped for a catch up at the Little Chef.
As the convoy headed through Ashford towards the French Connection,
all you could see was a mass of MR2s.
Dave Price heading into the car park at the French Connection,
closely followed by Mark Chamberlain.
We’d like to thank everyone who attended the coast run and we hope they all had as
much fun as we did, we hope to see you all soon.
