RAVENSWOOD CUSTOM AND CLASSIC CAR SHOW – SUNDAY 14th MAY 2006
Ravenswood
is the first show of the season. The show is held on the playing fields of the
Ravenswood school in Bromley, just off the A21, and is organized by members of
the PTA, both past and present.
The first show at Ravenswood was held 25 years ago by a group of
enthusiastic sixth formers. At that time the VW Beetle was the young person’s
must have car (obviously the MR wasn’t around then otherwise...) so initially
the show was a Beetlemania exhibition. Over the years more clubs from all over Southern England
have continued to join in, with MR2 Mk1 Club starting in 2002, and just
recently the first overseas visitor brought their car to the show.
The MR2 (Mk1) club stand was well attended this year. The event has always
been promoted as a local show for local members but this was the first year that
this actually happened. Five of the six cars on display all came from within a
10 mile radius of the show with the ever committed Karl Thomas being the only
one with a drive up from the South coast.
It was a red day for the Mk1’s. They were all red except for one white
over silver model owned by Ian Hobley. The red cars were owned by Martin Clarke,
complete with new leather seats, Karl Thomas whose car is always one of the
cleanest, Robert Hexter who we were pleased to see is making a good recovery
following surgery earlier this year, my own T bar still looking good despite
needing some cash spent on it, and Paul Lewis who had the star of the group with
an immaculate T bar with less than 50k on the clock. All the cars were in
excellent condition and very well presented which was rewarded by many
compliments from those who saw them.
A big
thank you to all those who came with their cars and put an a superb display for
the club.

Mark's report:
We left home at 10.00am. We arrived at 10.30am. We all helped set up the gazebo. Mark
and Nan set up a table to put under the gazebo. Then we went for a look around the rest
of the Cars. Then we went to pick up our places.
We found a Ferrari. I went over to have a look as fast as I could. I saw someone
from school and showed him where the MR2s were. All the MR2s were gleaming red.
