SOUTH EAST PAST EVENTS
RAVENSWOOD CUSTOM AND CLASSIC CAR SHOW – SUNDAY 13th MAY 2007
The first show of 2007 in the south
east was the Ravenswood Custom and Classic car show in Bromley, Kent. Held in
the grounds of Ravenswood School which raises money for school equipment, this
show is becoming ever more popular with visitors and exhibitors year by year.
However, this year’s show was blighted by bad weather which kept the numbers
down of both visitors and exhibitors to the show. Nonetheless, not to be
deterred by a bit of rain, and armed with a new gazebo and flag members of the
Mk1 club drove onwards to the show ground.
Two of our cars couldn’t make it at the last minute but we had four Mk1s to display.
One of our members, Nick Lawson kindly offered to bring along his MR2 at the
last minute. Not his Mk1, but a Mk2. However, it was a Mk2 dressed in a Ferrari
355 body kit. Nick has a business converting the Mk2 to a replica 355 so it was
a good opportunity to promote the car at the show.
Upon arrival at the show ground we started to erect the new gazebo but no one had any idea
how to put it up! Except Kevin Crane, who had previously helped dismantle one at
last years JAE show. After a bit of thought, trail and error plus a bit of luck
the gazebo and flag were eventually erected, (easy when you know how)
As predicted earlier that morning visitors were a bit sparse and not much happened during the
day. Most visitors to our stand I think came to shelter under the gazebo during
the showers. We had an invite into the arena but there weren’t many people
around the arena so we declined. Nick volunteered to take the 355 into the
arena. That pleased the organizers so Nick took it off the trailer and into the
arena.
As Nick entered the arena the commentator announced “what a beautiful Ferrari we have
here” He kept on about this for what seemed ages, Nick circled the arena and
eventually stopped next to the commentator who was still mumbling on about this
Ferrari when Nick calmly announced it was not a Ferrari but an MR2. The
commentator was speechless for a moment, Nick then explained about the car and
his business.
Robert Hexter was our competition winner for having the car with the highest mileage. Robert
won a £10 voucher towards club clothing. Well done Rob!
Many thanks to all those members who came to the show and showed their support for the club.
